Someone on reddit posted that we lost our first round SuperDraft pick to the Sounders because of the amount that we sold Poku last season.

I have a gut feeling that the team have little intention of paying the SuperDraft much mind this season anyway - I can see us either trading our last picks away for GAM in the next two weeks or signing a couple of random players and just sending them to USL straight away. I feel like CFG only sees a value in the SuperDraft where they have the chance to grab a top 3 pick, and isn't particularly fussed about trading up to get hold of those.

Even by MLS standards that sounds like a made up thing. But this is MLS so maybe? But why of all teams would the Sounders get the pick? I vote no, but I don't actually know.

MLS should produce a game show where the host reads off various things that are purported MLS rules or things that supposedly happened and contestants then have to guess if they're real or not.

.glad to have someone like you on this board.

We acquired Pokus mls rights from the sounders. We may have traded a conditional pick for him.

The only good thing about us not making moves right now is we're waiting for winter transfer window. Which would mean European talent. Still... With how many gaps we have I cant imagine they're filling it all with internationals.

Please don't make the argument that the free market makes everything better. Please.

Just please.
Depends on your definition of being better. but free market is the only solution and the least bad path with lthe least amount of human errors and flaws playing a role in resource allocation

It may not be communism at MLS, but it is certainly not the fiercest capitalism possible. You want the fiercest brand possible, bro? Then untie clubs hands and let them spend whatever they want. And let the poor and financially weak players be squeezed/priced out. No one is smart enough to figure out what the optimum amount a club should spend nor how and where the best clubs should be operated...let the free market sort it out!

Impossible with players union, since free market will potentially leave many of its members out of a job

I think that has only worked so far because we have been at a level where there is not as much global competition for the talent we would like. It works for NFL, MLB, NHL etc, because there are no other buyers for the players in the world. That doesn't apply in soccer. If you want to keep the league right where it is now, and you are happy with the talent level you are at, then single entity works. If you want to compete even for these lower-mid level guys, your plan to reduce competition among MLS clubs works against you, because it doesn't allow you the freedom to compete against Chinese clubs, Mexican clubs, Portugese clubs, etc. who are in the next echelon of leagues.

Players that have legitimate options aren't going to put up with the kind of crap players have to put up with to come to MLS. (Weird loan rules, no charter flights, ability to be traded etc)
I don't really see how the business structure of the league impacts the ability to compete globally. There are some stupid rules in MLS that need to be changed but you can change allocation dollars/salary cap to attract more talent, change charter flights, etc and still keep the single entity structure.

This is also a league that nearly folded 15 years ago. Growing slow and steady is not a bad thing. In a decade or two, MLS is going to be in a very different place.
