2017 Schedule Thread

I haven't looked, I leave the analysis to y'all.

Ask and ye shall receive:

CONFLICTS (not counting any games broadcast on Fox/Unimas/Espn - Friday & Sunday):

Sat April 8th @ DC 4pm. Yankees @ Baltimore 4:05pm (we're even in the same damn city...)

Sat April 29 @ Columbus 7:30pm. Yankees home to Baltimore TBD. Possible... Hopefully Yanks start at 1 and not 4 or we'd miss the beginning of the match because of post-game BS.

Wed May 17th @RSL 9pm. Yankees @KC TBD. Chances are it's a 7:05pm start for a weekday night. And will run right over our match.

Wed May 31st home to NER TBD. Yankees @ Baltimore 7:05pm. For sure we have a problem there. At least most of us will be at the match. We can watch the "live" replay when we get home.

Sat June 3rd home to Philly TBD. Yankees @ Toronto 1:07pm start. Let's hope it's a 5pm or later start for us.

Sat June 24th @ NJ 1:30pm. Yankees @ Texas TBD.

Thurs June 29th home to Minnesota TBD. Yankees @ Chicago WS TBD. Very good chance they are at the same time.

Wed July 5th @ Vancouver TBD. Yankees home to Toronto TBD. We need a 10pm start, and even then we'll probably get a run over from the 7pm start at YS. We'll get a delayed match starting at some time around 11pm on a weeknight for a match you really can't even travel to unless you're super ultra hard core. I might really lose my shit over this one if they can't let us stream or find another station.

Saturday August 19th Home to NER TBD. Yankees at Boston 7:10pm. It's a great NY-Boston Rivalry day. Hopefully our match is 5pm or earlier start and we can all watch both and beat Boston twice. Tell them where they can stuff their clam chowda.

Wed Sept 6th Home to SKC TBD. Yankees @ Baltimore 7:05pm. Direct conflict. And if they score off another goddamn throw in...

Sat Sept 9th Home to Portland TBD. Yankees @ Texas TBD. Possible conflict.

Sat Sept 16th @ Colorado 9pm. Yankees home to Baltimore. Possible conflict, let's hope Yanks play an afternoon game and don't have any rain makeups for a double header.

Sat Sept 23rd home to Houston 4pm. Yankees @ Toronto 1:07pm. This could easily run over and post-game for sure.

Wed Sept 27th @ Montreal TBD. Yankees @ Tampa TBD. Who we kidding at this point? Conflict!

Sat Sept 30th @ Chicago 8:30pm. Yankees home to Toronto TBD. Possible conflict.

15 of our 34 matches could possibly not be shown on live television. Or even available to stream for the NY audience. If this actually happens that's utter bullshit. I'm sorry, but it is. This is exactly the type of bush-league poppycock that gets my panties all in a tizzy.

NYCFC PLEASE HAVE A PLAN THIS YEAR!!!!!!! I'll watch the matches on the O network, CSPAN, public access; I don't give a damn. Just find us somewhere to broadcast the matches live. Is that too hard to ask for a pro-sports team in NYC??????

Rant over.

A number of the games you mentioned here are on national TV. There are a few conflicts, but not 15. By my count, the following games could have a conflict (And remember, the Yankees WPIX schedule isn't announced yet - it's possible some of these dates could be days when the Yankees are on WPIX, thereby resolving the conflict.

April 1: There's a 6pm Nets game. Odds are NYCFC would be in the afternoon. Let's say no likely conflict there.

Apri 29: Yankees are TBD, but they're home -- they almost always play 1pm games on Saturdays unless the game is on national TV. If it is, that resolves the conflict. Unlikely conflict.

May 17: Likely conflict unless Yankees are on WPIX.

May 31: Likely conflict unless Yankees are on WPIX.

June 3: Yankees are at 1pm -- so hopefully NYCFC schedules its home game for later in the day. Possible conflict.

June 29: Likely conflict unless Yankees are on WPIX.

July 5: Yankees are TBD, but they're home. It's the last game of a series and the Blue Jays have a game in Houston the following day. Highly likely Yankees end up playing at 1pm. Unlikely conflict.

July 19: Yankees are at 1pm. No conflict.

July 22: Yankees are at 9pm. Unlikely conflict.

Aug. 19: Yankees are at 7pm and in Boston, so that's likely a national TV game for the Yanks. If NYCFC plays in the afternoon, no conflict expected.

Sept. 6: Likely conflict unless Yankees are on WPIX.

Sept. 9: Possible conflict. Yankees are in Texas, so likely either a 2pm game or 8pm game. Hopefully NYCFC can maneuver its home game around that. Let's say that's a possible conflict.

Sept. 16: NYCFC is at 9pm. Yankees are home. Unlikely conflict.

Sept. 27: Likely conflict unless Yankees are on WPIX.

Sept. 30: Yankees are home, NYCFC plays at 8:30. Unlikely conflict.

So by my count that's five games with a likely conflict. Not the 15 you listed above.

Put 'em on The Ocho

The MLS on ESPN The Ocho, with overtime during the regular season along with an extra sub, a goalkeeper sub, and hockey style shootouts.

If they're on the Ocho I want fighting allowed and a penalty box.

Are you talking about national TV for the Yankees? I didn't cross-reference that. Also, I too mention of those 15 that it's not a definite conflict. But you're forgetting that baseball games can run 3 hours + and the last 2 years NYCFC matches have not been shown live to allow for the Yankees POST-GAME SHOW. That's insane. Also, don't be so quick to discount some dates as unlikely conflict. We've had a few times already where a rain delay has pushed an afternoon Yankees game right into an NYCFC late afternoon/night match.

The real point is that we need an alternative station. There's MSG, MSG2, MSG+ and even sometimes I find Islanders games on weird ass channels when there isn't enough room. How hard is it for YES to make a deal with a local random channel for that sort of scenario? I'm almost compelled to think that CFG/NYCFC signed a piss poor K with YES (that the Yankees aren't even majority owners of anymore) and there's no clause that states an alternative must be found to broadcast a match live. So YES would rather show it delayed for the ratings on it's own network, then make accommodations for fans it couldn't really give a damn about. And CFG/NYCFC isn't in a position to do anything about it, so they just keep their mouths shut.

Well, maybe not. We'd have to compare viewership numbers and cross-reference that with ad count and ad rates. I have a feeling they make a lot more money off of the Yankee postgame show than they might off of an NYCFC match, especially given that there's so few ad spots available in a soccer game. So no, unfortunately, probably not insane. But yes, certainly frustrating.

It would help if Fox just got a damn Apple TV app. Sometimes, I am forced to watch Everton games on the NBC Sports Apple TV App. The only difference between that and NBC SN is the pre-game and halftime shows.

I'm almost positive there's a Fox Sports Go Apple TV app. Not at home at the moment so I can't check but I'm pretty sure it's available.

ETA: For the newest model that is, not for the first ones.

Got it. Thank you. I have the old one. Guess I need to buy a new one for this season. Can't watch on an iPad.

I don't have FSG on mine. I don't have the first one, but it was purchased a year or two ago. Not sure what model that makes it.

It's a worthwhile upgrade. There's lots of apps, and you may find that some apps you already have on your iPad will show up on the Apple TV. I had perfectly good version 3 and got the new one, was worth it.

The version 4 model is tall (relatively). The first three were an inch high, the new one is an inch and a half. If it's the size of a hockey puck it's one of the older ones. If it's too big for that it's the new one. Purchase date may not help that much either. The new one came out in September 2015 but they still sold version 3 for a year maybe.

Oh yeah, the new one has a touchpad remote. The older ones have a circular-button remote.

No, I was talking about national TV for us. You counted a number of games that are Unimas or FOX/ESPN. We have at least one ESPN game on a Friday and a Saturday game on Unimas, so the schedule is all over the map.

Trust me, I know all about rain delays. I'm saying those are highly unlikely scenarios for something to go wrong. A 1pm Yankees game will almost never conflict with a 7:30 soccer game. Does it happen occasionally? Of course it does. That's why I wrote unlikely conflict, not no conflict. My point remains -- there are 5 days where there are likely conflicts, and all the other games, it's likely the conflict can be avoided. We'll know more once both teams finalize their game times (All Yankees home games are still TBD, and most non-national TV games for NYCFC are still TBD).

As to your MSG point -- the contract is with YES, not MSG. You can't use MSG for a team that's aired by YES. The issue is an overflow channel. YES does that for the Nets when there's a Yankees conflict, but they haven't done it in the past for soccer.

I didn't say put NYCFC on MSG2, I was using it as an example. No way YES and MSG would allow that. But then the question remains, if the Nets can be moved to an overflow channel, why can't NYCFC. It's pretty strange that they don't.

Still no 4k, though. Really annoying. I have a couple of the older AppleTVs and never use them, except for NBC app (pisses me off due to frame rate) and airplaying the FS Go / Soccer apps.

That's what I do, airplay. But it looks like crap with the frame rates.
