2018 SuperDraft - NYCFC Thread

I just wanted to report back from the US soccer coaches convention here in Philly. As you know, the MLS Superdrsft is a small part of the week. The events started today and most coaches are checking in tonight. So far, I've seen the LA Galaxy coaches and the Minnesota United coaches.

Tomorrow, Kyle Martino is interviewing Thierry Henry. All of the other candidates are doing one on ones as well over the next several days.

The amount of space dedicated to the event is absolutely massive. I don't know how much I will be able to get to this week from here on out besides the Draft, but this is a must do for any US Soccer fan.

It's soccer porn.

Do you need tickets for anything? Or you can just walk right into the events?

SITC say we trade up and get Bakero.

But good to know.

Bakero is currently at 7th, but is probably a top 3-5 pick. Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day for sure.

I think we'll be doing trades late, as in once players are drafted, we come to an agreement with that team.

You can walk right in. There are tickets that you need to buy - day passes for certain things - but it's kind of an honor system.

Are you thinking of coming down tomorrow?

Nope. Too busy at work. Will be watching the SuperDraft on one screen from YouTube.

DC traded the #3 pick to LAFC for 200k allocation (100k GAM/TAM).

Does LAFC still keep the #1 pick?
Does Ola Kamara get traded before the draft? Would LAG or Columbus sell the #2 pick?

I expect we will draft a CB or maybe a LB/RB with our highest pick.

We seem to be set in terms of forwards and we have 2 young midfielders (Sands and Awuah) already.

That's a lot less than I would have thought that pick would go for.

Last season, we traded $250K of GAM for the same position, which we used to get Lewis. As people have pointed out, we basically get much of that back in benefit because his salary doesn't count against the cap.

I've been wondering if the draft positions might trade for more this year since there is so much more TAM sloshing around - increase the money supply, and you get inflation. This would suggest not.

What’s odd is that if NYCFC wants to move up, $200k would have been easy to swallow and nearly an automatic agreement to trade, so if NYCFC wasn’t in the mix for the #3 spot, they either want #1 or #2 or don’t intend to move up at all. I find the third option the least likely. Then again, maybe DC refused to deal with NYcFC, but history has shown the opposite, so that should be discounted.

ha, proof that we don't give a shit about the draft this year. a 4th (3rd?) choice keeper.
