It doesn’t make sense unless they’re pegging it to the price of tix - yours are more expensive than mine, so maybe they figure they can entice lower rung STH to jump at a lower cost and the Delta STH to expect a higher cost?
That type of price differentiation where you try to charge more to people willing to pay more is well established, but it thrives better under more opaque conditions. Airlines do it via a maze of almost invisible fare classes and spread the price switches over time, which makes it hard to track and people accept the changes, thinking especially that it is fair to charge more closer to the flight date as seat availability decreases. And the pricing is opaque enough that people don't always notice when fares jump around for reasons unrelated or even inversely correlated to that.
What the club is doing here though is nuts. Asking me to pay more when lots of people get the same offer on the same day for less cost, and knowing about Reddit and this forum and the likelihood that we share information in real time, is a recipe for customer unhappiness.
In fact it's so stupid I tend to think my pricing has to be a mistake. It looks like everyone was offered a lower price than me, including both multiple reports from people who pay less per ticket and now from Fred who has Champions tickets which cost more than mine. If it's not a mistake it's a really dumb experiment.
