Ahhhhh, i see. Seems like that's going to end up as whoever is 2nd in the east anyways, but a useful correction.
Right. Basically, if we finish 2nd to Atlanta and above 2nd in the West, we know we are in. If we are 2nd to Philly, we are not, but that seems much less likely. We will know more coming up this weekend when Philly and Atlanta face off.
I knew I wanted Atlanta to win to increase our chances of CCL qualification, but while watching last night, I couldn't help myself with pulling for Minnesota.

so we are at thing point almost guaranteed top 4.... which means we will have Leagues Cup AND CCL
I didn't even try. I don't even want CCL if we can't finish ahead of Atlanta [and Philly], or win MLS Cup.
"Yay, Atlanta has 3 trophies and we have none but thank goodness they won USOC because we were the best also ran so we get to play CCL next winter." I can't do it.

no, the leagues cup is for the best four teams in each conference not qualified for CCL. that is why in many scenarios practically all playoff teams get international tournament play.

Did they just do it different this last year? I mean, NYC was one of the best teams last year that didn't make CCL, right?

the rules changed for 2020 and beyond, this year it was just random teams selected on both sides.
The teams participating in the first year of LC were selected by, MLS central I guess. There were no official criteria. They announced the qualification rules going forward during this year's tournament.

Right. It's kind of like Europa League, but only U.S. & Mexico - not anyone else from Concacaf.
Also, it seems like Liga MX will let its teams qualify for both - strangely.
