2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas to take place on Thursday, January 9th at 12 PM ET streamed on Twitter and other social media sites.

NYCFC has the 22nd and 48th picks.

Remember when we used to care about the draft because it was an opportunity to make the team better?

That was years ago.
It can still be useful for those picking in the top 5 spots or so. An opportunity to add perhaps a role player, but that's really about the only value it still has now.

If US soccer would give a crap about youth soccer, maybe in like a decade it would matter.................

That's not it. The draft is all about picking players from college. In today's environment teams are picking the best players from their academies (Sands, Haak, Scally). We are reaching the point where the draft is just of players who were late bloomers or who fell through the development cracks for other reasons (distance from Academies, etc.)

5 years ago a lot of teams had a chance of improving their team with a second round pick. Today that is like hitting the lottery. The quality of the league is so much better and fewer and fewer players who can compete at this level are attending college and then want to play professionally.

True, I forgot about that part. There's almost no reason for the draft to even exist...

If, and it’s a big if, there’s a draft, it should be for the USL, but only if the USL can pay a reasonable relocation wage - otherwise, the players should be free to sign with their preferred USL (or MLS or any other club) team that makes the most sense for them.

The draft is pretty obsolete, and if the players in question are ones that aren’t already affiliated with an academy, then the chances of them making a squad are small so let them figure out what’s best for them and not have their rights held in perpetuity by a rando .org.

this is tomorrow ? lol wow i wonder if we pass the second round pick? it tends to go to USL anyway

The weird thing is we have a history of trading up for it, so I hope we don't do that again...

1st Round Only
2015: No trades
2016: Traded the 4th pick + GAM for player to be named later which was Jack Harrison (the first overall pick, I wouldn't call this trading up)
2017: Traded 250K GAM for 3rd pick (selected Jonathan Lewis)
2018: No trades
2019: Traded the 19th pick + 75K GAM for the 12th pick (selected Luis Barraza)

We have the 22nd overall pick this year. I really don't know what to expect from us at this SuperDraft. But please no more goalkeeper selections.

This is so cheesy, but I kinda like watching that lmao

The production value is so bad...

- No Commissioner announcing picks
- That Beckham video chat was terrible
- They put the Inter Miami logo on the draft card for the 4th pick who was selected by Vancouver

and then the next pick they gave him an orlando thing accidentally and he put it back and took NER lol.

If they perfect this way, though, I think I like it better than the very formal way of previous years.
