I would love to know who strikers 1 though 8 were and the reasons why we couldn't get them.
That's what he said in his Spanish podcast interview. Crooks is just rehashing the same quotes at this point.
I would imagine we couldn't get the other strikers cause of money. Tam can only do so much I guess? But I'd also be curious to know. Too bad we'll never know. But hey, at least our 9th pick turned out to be pretty good. I just hope in 2020 he's not as injury prone as he seems to be ...

You only have X amount of TAM. You can’t soend more than what you are allotted or purchase. Heber came with a transfer fee and a hefty salary. He’s essentially a maxed out TAM player. He may have been the 9th option but it’s not like we didn’t stretch the budget to the maximum amount allowable.

We know about Carlitos and Ola Kamara. My guess is the other failures all came down to the same thing, our lack of budget flexibility with that TAM slot.
What about the discretionary TAM? If we didn't use any then there is an argument to be made there.
The money is capped but I think it's fair to be critical of how long it takes our FO to execute on player acquisitions. We seem to always be sorting things out late into training camp and worse early into the season. Why are we striking out on 8 players? Are we reaching for players we are unlikely to get and if so are they hedging by working on safer bets in parallel or just shooting for the stars striking out and then starting over again. The process is a black box so we can't say for sure but from the information that gets out and the fact that we go through this every season I think it's fair to say our FO is a bit dysfunctional in it's player acquisition processes.

and Crooks said he got a translated version from a native speaker. so there shouldn't be any lost in translation issues. at least with the major points.
Yes but even with discretionary TAM you can’t go above the maximum budget charge. He can only have a $1.5 million budget charge every year and still be a TAM player.
yes just had a listen, yea it was what was quoted. Heber he was 9th. Mentioned either monetary reasons or the players wanted to stay in the country they were in, thats why we ended up with Heber. and that FO took way too long ( which is fair and something they always been doing).
also says we are 12th in spending in the league ( hes specific doesnt just say mid table) and says we are the "espanyol" of the MLS ....which is a burn lol.
That’s completely fair. You just have to remember that when we pay a transfer fee, we actually have a cap. This isn’t like Tottenham waiting to the last minute and hoping the fee falls. Because of the salary cap, we actuslly have a number we can’t go above. Other teams around the world understand that and know they have a “put” on selling a player. If we can only pay $3 million for Heber, his team can then go around and look for someone to pay them $3.5 million. The whole world already knows what an MLS team is bidding
I don't. I think most teams in this league would kill to have a transfer policy as dysfunctional as ours.
I think Dome whining about taking too long to sign a striker is weird considering a) the guy we got was great and b) he spent those first few weeks saying we would be fine anyway
I think Mitrita's year looks pretty average when you compare him to say, Vela, Zlatan or Martinez. I also think that's true of almost every other DP in this league, and Mitri did better than most of them.
I don't think the data backs this up. Here is our winter signing calendar the last 4 seasons. The only impact signing that happened after Feb 15 in any of those years was Heber. We pretty much always have our important signings in and done by early Feb.
