If they pay $9mm they can have him
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCKWhat the fuck is happening with NYCFC?
NYCFC announces that Mitrita is going on international duty (or taking a personal leave). And then someone else announces officially he's signed to a loan with an option to buy.
Vieira left on similar weird terms, but we knew for some time he would entertain better options.
This is worse than Lampardgate. It's midseason. WTF?
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK
Assuming this is true, this is roster mismanagement of epic proportions. Hebér is out for the season, Maxi is now made of glass, and the club is possibly just letting Treats walk midseason? When the window is closed and we can't get a replacement?
Bless your optimism.First, it seems prudent to wait until an announcement is official. A random social media post or two may not be the most reliable source.
That noted, if this is true...it may not be a bad idea. The Romanian team has games on 10/5 and 10/14. New York currently has a mandatory 14 day quarantine period. At best, Mitrita would be available for a game on 10/28, but more likely 10/29 since he is unlikely to take an international flight the day of the second game. If that timing holds true, he would miss the next six regular season games, returning for only the final two and any playoff games that occur.
If the loan offer is a sizable sum, it could be a smart financial move, especially so considering the current pandemic world soccer market. Further, if there is an option to buy - as well as he has played recently - it could free significant money next year for a DP that is more Pozuelo and less Kaku.
If Medina can be converted to TAM as well ( I never remember the timing or possibilities), that could open two slots for 2021 in what would hopefully be a normal, or more normal, season. Announcing two new DP's along with a stadium....maybe?
Can you imagine if people were paying STH fees for this year?BUT, this is a stark reminder of the big goose egg of moves this club has made so far. The transfer window has been open for a while, its open for a few more weeks and nothing has been done. Maxi has been injured on multiple, separate occasions, which has underscored this team's need for a backup 10 (which many of us were calling for before the season started) and nothing has been done.
Yeah, its been a weird year with COVID and perhaps that's throwing some uncertainty with transfers, etc. But even within the league, there were moves that could have been made. I look at a guy like Lee Nguyen going from Miami back to New England. Someone like that would have provided some decent depth at the 10 for us.
They’re trying to lower expenses. Getting rid of a DP salary is the easiest way to do that. I think we still pay for a percentage right? Recall hearing something about that in the past, could be wrong. In the last 5 years of watching MLS I don’t remember another case of a club loaning out their DP player. If this is true, it's a clear message to the supporters that the club will be a virtual afterthought until there is a new stadium to market and fill. There's a trophy to play for this season, and even with some peripheral depth moves (particularly given the injuries), the club would have had a good chance to take advantage of a fluky season format and some pretty weak opposition. But they instead decide to make NO moves, fail to address injuries to key components, and allegedly send off our only useful DP at the moment and player in best form - who also is filling the critical hole left by the injury of our best player. Why do they have to make it so difficult to be enthusiastic about this club?
