Seems like a missed opportunity to reduce travel risk by not scheduling a game or even two between us.
I wonder what Montreal and Vancouver plan to do, considering the initial plan was to play against each other and Toronto. Will they also come to NJ?

At this point MLS should just take over those apartments right by Red Bull Arena, invite all EC teams, and create a second bubble: MLS is Back Again

Yeah, but why RBA? Why not Boston? Philadelphia? DC? Columbus?? There are so many other teams that could share and not have three teams share it. lol

Why RBA? Well, Boston isn’t a soccer stadium and there’s also an NFL team there. It’s also nowhere, near nothing. (Well, there is a Five Guys right there I guess.) Similar with Philly. Not really all that familiar with the DC or Columbus stadiums. But RBA is soccer-only and has no other usage except for the Sky Blues. And while for us in New York City it’s hard to get to and in the middle of nowhere for the rest of the world it’s minutes away from a giant international airport and right near major interstates. Also, because it’s not in the middle of a crowded city isolation may be a lot easier, although it does have Newark minutes away if needed.

I could see RBA hosting eight teams and four matches per weekend, the way they do for international friendly tournaments. Do one in the afternoon and one at night and you could even have time to clear out the imaginary spectators that aren’t allowed in at the moment.

I’m not really personally a fan of RBA but I also can’t really think of another unused soccer specific stadium 14 minutes away from a major airport that’s at the same time also pretty isolated as well yet still near a city a few minutes away. Seems kind of ideal.

Didn’t we just have a reasonably successful tournament at Disney which did exactly that? Seemed to work pretty well.

I doubt they will be there at the same time. RB will train at their facilities, we will train at ours, and Toronto will either share or lease from a college.

I realize that, but are there enough locker rooms? Will they be sharing locker rooms? And if they do, what is the sanitizing process? What will happen if there are multiple games there on the same day? Will they be able to turn the locker rooms around fast enough? It just seems like an outbreak risk to have multiple temas at that stadium.

Also, FC Dallas is actually selling single game tickets. FZC Dallas, the team that got sent home because they had too many Coronavirus cases.

Longer answer:

Due to travel restrictions between the U.S. and Canada, MLS announced the initial phase of the league’s revised schedule with each U.S. club playing six matches against other U.S. teams by Sept. 14.

Major League Soccer continues to work with the league’s three Canadian clubs regarding plans to continue the regular season. More details on schedules for the Canadian teams will be announced in the near future.

Obviously. So let me spell out my concerns a bit clearer.

If they do a doubleheader at the stadium -- or even three games in one day -- how do they clean the locker rooms and common areas between each game? Will they have time to do so? Will players be in the stadium early enough that there are now 4 teams there and it becomes tougher to socially distance? How many locker rooms are there -- are there enough for two sets of teams, two sets of officials, etc?

Fair questions, but the solutions seem pretty self evident.

MLS does need to plan for these things, but they don’t seem insurmountable.

Exactly.
RBA at least looks right on tv....even if empty. The Orlando studio, Yankee Stadium and everywhere the Cosmos played looks bad on tv. So that rules out every option except RBA and MetLife as far as I can think if.

Theoretically they could have gone to a college stadium like St. Johns or Columbia or something, but those places would have been cost prohibitive for all the infrastructure they would have needed, so if the training center was a no-go, then every other non-MLS stadium would have been a no-go, too.

A little late on the reply, but there are 5 locker rooms at RBA for exactly the reason you mention when they have double-headers.
