2026 MLS Regular Season

This post really struck a nerve with me. Feels like over the past year, the US Soccer fan experience has become so incredibly scammy. I know all sports teams are vehicles to separate us from our money, but most sports leagues aren't quite this overt about it. Really beginning to resent how MLS, SUM, FIFA, and everyone involved in US soccer is trying to scam me out of as much money as they think I'm willing to part with.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but the whole fan experience from ticket prices to stuff like this is starting to impact my enjoyment of the sport.

I hear ya. Might I suggest deleting all social media?

It's not a social media issue, it's just the one post I saw that annoyed me this morning. The ticket prices scandal in the World Cup, the way US soccer prices fans out of national team games, what NYCFC is doing with ticket prices at Etihad Park, MLS firing all its writers and putting its fantasy game behind a paywall after putting its broadcasts behind a paywall ... I'm a Yankees & Rangers fan, I know all about pricing fans out of going to games. It just all seems so over-the-top in soccer the last 12-18 months.

David Lee Masterclass.

We've been there, SKC fans. Hang in there. David Lee's PR people will tell you what a great job he does and every good signing is his and every bad signing is someone else's. Just know there are people who understand.

Doyle's initial MLS Tier article of 2026.

Tier 1 is Miami, LAFC and Vancouver.
Tier 2 is Seattle, Nashville, Cincinnati, San Diego, NYCFC

NYCFC is in a similar spot in his preseason Power Rankings. So the puzzler is why he set the O/U line at 52.5 and picked lower.
His worries for NYC are is... mostly scoring. No CF and no clear match winners like the other teams in the top 2 tiers. The idea of Magno as starting 9 rates an "oof." He also has questions about Gustavo. Strengths are the coach and overall roster depth.

I read it as a tier list centered around trophy winning potential as opposed to a general season performance forecast. Especially with how he describes the Tier 1 teams:

These are the teams that I expect to win some sort of trophy this year, be it Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, MLS Cup, US Open Cup or the Supporters’ Shield – or, for Vancouver, a fifth-straight Canadian Championship.

Through that framework I think both the over/under and the high tier for NYCFC make sense. The team will likely drop points early in the season due to the unresolved striker situation lowering our season points total ceiling. If you assume the front office will find a quality* striker and you believe that is the only missing piece from an otherwise high quality squad you can also project that NYCFC has the quality to compete for any of the available hardware that is up for grabs once they add that striker.

This pretty much jives with how I see the season going. Until they add a striker we are going to struggle to score and things are going to be rough but a quality* resolution to the #9 situation positions us to compete from trophies.

*This is the CFG scouting group that has previously sent us strikers such as Nemec, Bakrar, Jovan, etc. so successful candidate selection is not guaranteed.
