2026 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Clark Thompson? Yeah baby, now we get to use this!!!

Is it possible that the SD search was delayed until now because they wanted to go after someone currently working for an MLS team, and they needed to wait until the end of the season to try to get them? Or is this just me wish-casting that there is a possibility we aren't getting another CFG insider yes man?

It appears that Union/Cin didn't announce their moves until Wednesday 11/26/25 at 3pm/4pm. So I wouldn't be surprised if the team can wait until Wednesday as well to announce the moves.

FC Cincinnati announce roster decisions ahead of the 2026 season | FC Cincinnati

Seeing that it comes from the team, my bet is that we get it Friday afternoon. NYCFC press releases are typically slower than other teams, and if there is anything even remotely controversial in the decisions, NYCFC loves that late-Friday news-dump time.

Prince Amponsah, Alex Rando gone.

Otherwise all exercised.

Maxi and Haak in contract discussions, and perea is... Idk?

Most interesting is this one.

"Andrés Perea also had his option declined, but the Club remains in negotiations around his future"

surprised prince is gone. he's a home grown too. guess he was not developing too well with the IIs. also shocked tanas is sticking around. the must be trying to limit their need to go find a cb?

Re Tana: He’s also Haak depth insurance considering how often Justin has played CB.

Yeah I have no problem with keeping Strahinja. He's the 3rd or 4th string CB depending on what happens with Haak. He makes too much but I have to believe their salary budget is in pretty decent shape.

The more I think about it the more shocked I am about Perea. Are they spooked about Malachi's injury that they don't feel confident in Perea's recovery? He's been so good here, losing him would be a major blow even if he misses the first couple months of the year.

Assuming they declined Perea's option so they can try to re-sign him for less due to the injury. I know sports is a business, but that's some cold stuff.

I may be making this up, but I'm pretty sure I remember the league having some mechanism for injured players on expiring contracts or option years.

I think that's only for season-ending injuries. But Roberto Abramowitz said on his podcast a few weeks ago that Andres thinks he'll be ready near the start of next season so if he's even back by May, he's still playing the vast majority of the year.

Cam Skattebo had a similar injury and he's returning in 4-6 months, which could bring Perea back certainly in the opening weeks of the year.

Yeah keeping Tana is fine, his wages aren't terrible and there's value in continuity.

Its too bad that this likely means Murray is still over a year away and they are possibly hedging on a Haak departure.

Loosing Haak for nothing is a complete disaster if they let it happen.

Ice cold. Whoever is making these decisions — and we don't know who is making these decisions — is being pretty ruthless.

It's almost like something, say, an intern would do in their fantasy league. Ahem.

Anyway, I can't help but wonder if these two things are related. Haak is looking to get paid. There needs to be some room in the Salary Budget to do it and to also find another striker.

But if we just toss Andrés aside like a cheap broken hobby horse to get it done, I for one am going to be pissed. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. New Yorkers know the shaft when they see it.
