2026 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Relatedly but off topic, I never paid much attention to Pascal's accent, but listening to this longish clip it struck me that unlike many Europeans who learn English he does not have any English accent mixed with his native accent. Which is more surprising because he was born in England, grew up in Holland, has one English and one Dutch parent, and is himself a dual English/Dutch citizen. If anything it sounds like he tries to affect an American accent, and IMO does so pretty well, though a little lilt of something underlies it. Which doesn't sound at all Dutch to me, but I don't know what else it would be.

Must have learned it from Earnie Stewart.

if that is his focus then more power to him. forcing him to play there is one thing, but if he WANTS to play there, he has no one to blame but himself if he fails. Based on what Jansen said, he asked all the right questions and left it up to Magno to determine what needs to be done.

Hopefully, his mind and motivation are in a good place after spending time back with this new group and with Jansen. We need a good boost in our attack and a Magno producing elite numbers is exactly what we need from a DP spot.

Is Matt Doyle ridiculously high on Seymour Reid or is he pulling our leg? This is from his preseason Power Rankings. He has us at #8, with this summary:

NYCFC: If Seymour Reid is the Matchday 1 starter at center forward I might just move this team up to No. 1.
pretty sure it's a joke - but now i'm really not sure lol

He also had this to say about an old friend:

30. Sporting KC: This roster's in rough shape.

I'm high on Reid and hope that he establishes himself as a consistent sub and occasional spot starter this year but he's still 17. If the Reid hype and Magno's reported desire to commit himself to being a #9 has then pumping the brakes on the DP striker search I think we are playing with fire.

Magno can say he wants to play the 9 all he wants but the last time he did that he scored 2 goals in 30 appearances.

Doyle is relatively high on Reid but the comment still seems to be a stretch.
Last summer he wrote that Reid scores well on his 4 questions for strikers:
  1. Do they score goals?
  2. What’s their xG?
  3. Do they have compelling physical traits?
  4. What’s their receiving goals added as per American Soccer Analysis?

Doyle noted that Reid's score on 4 was only marginally positive.

Assessing the NYCFC roster In December (before Haak was gone or Trewin acquired and Sylla stuff), Doyle made these points:
  1. Nico made the team a whole lot better
  2. We could afford to lose Haak though it's far from ideal
  3. team needs another Nico level player to contend for real
  4. at least one of our premium roster spot failures needs to come off the books
  5. Keaton and Perea were major question marks, and
  6. On the whole he had to "squint very hard to see another conference finals run in this group."
Of those, 1 and 6 are observations, while 2-5 are markers. Of the markers, 2 is arguably a wash as we lost Haak but added a replacement, 3 and 4 have seen no progress, and 5 is a success story with Parks back and Perea soon. But overall, I'm puzzled that he would then say we're ranked #1 if we start Reid. In that same analysis Doyle said a hypothetical platoon of Reid and Calheira (who we transferred to Tulsa) would be fun.
It doesn't add up for me but Doyle knows his mind better than I do.
