In this case, if he really thinks Saunders is saving us, I question whether he knows what will affect the outcomes on the field.

I don't want/need to get into a whole back-and-forth over this with you and Ulrich. Some coaches feel that public criticism motivates their players. Others don't. PV clearly doesn't.

His words so far are completely consistent with that philosophy. I happen to share it. I also remember plenty of people on these boards being highly critical of JK for having the public criticism philosophy.

If you want public criticism, I get it. I just have a different philosophy, none of which is about delivering an accurate assessment for the media/fans and all of which is about speaking the words believed to have the most positive effect on the players.

If you stop and think about it, its almost as if Vieira is talking about a kid who is around 12-13 years old and he doesn't hurt his feelings.

What do you mean you have asked the GK to play with the ball at his feet, and he can't do it, and he continually makes mistakes and causes us to backpedal and give up easy goals. WTF DO YOU MEAN?????????????? Are you kidding me???????? If you know you have a keeper that can't distribute with his legs, then STOP PLAYING POSSESSION BALL close to your net!!!!!!!! If you want to play this type of game, then get someone in there who can play this type of possession. SMH!!!!!!

It would just be easier for Vieira to tell his defenders that instead of passing the ball back to Saunders with their feet, they chip the ball up in the air to themselves and head it back to him so he can use his hands? I mean, if he wants to try and force a square peg into a round hole, I think we'll have more success with our defenders to consistently trying to pull off the juggle-head pass than to ask Saunders to ever dribble the ball again. Some things in nature aren't meant to happen, that's why Darwin was given an 'ism.

I think this is going to be another game where our possession is around 60%. I wasn't impressed with DC last year, but Hamid single handedly got them a ton of points. They haven't looked good this year either and without Espindola and Rolfe's quality service they have problems. The "other" Sabo is almost as old as I am. This is a very winnable road game for NYCFC.

Not sure where I said I wanted public criticism. I want a change in an obviously poor player, I don't give a crap what he says to the media.

I share the enthusiasm and it is really an impressive rise to prominence for RJ. I remember when he started in the first game against NYRB last May and got torched from the outset by Lloyd Sam a number of times in the first 10 minutes. I was sitting there thinking that it was so depressing that we were picking up this guy from the rec league and playing him in the first ever derby.

He really improved as the season went on and, based on very limited data, it appears to have carried into this year. At this point, he is one of the first names in the 11 for me.

For all the criticism we give the Reyna/Kreis era about their acquisitions (not trying to stir that pot), they deserve credit for this one as, I'm guessing, RJ didn't come from the CFG scouting network.

I get a few mentions a week (after the injury report) on twitter about Brandt. People care, just not much because like you said, he's American and he's such a low salary guy that MLS picks up the check for him under the supplemental roster rules.

According to this interview at the 2:25 mark we have Villa to thank for RJ. Villa needed someone to train with in the fall before the team formed and he reached out to RJ. Who knows who made the connection for Villa and obviously Reyna/Kreis were smart enough to sign him but the credit for the find may not be all theirs.
