Away 05/23 - Rsl

What's RSL s story this year?
Inconsistent.

Let's not discount the elevation advantage for RSL. Rio Tinto stadium is at like 4,500 feet, so endurance will have to be carefully managed by our boys.
They seemed okay at Colorado, which is higher (snicker). Plus some of the guys should be use to it, Kreis should know what to do to get ready.

1/3 of the way through season - stats based on whoscored:

Interesting tidbits:
Mix, Villa, and Saunders were man of the match for first three matches. Have not had a MoM since.
7 times we have had a player rating at 8 or above. None have cracked 8 more than once this season.

In final 15 minutes we have
- given up 2 equalizers and 2 winners to drop 6 points
- scored 1 equalizer to pick up 1 point

For all of the following ratings:
* At least 5 games played.
* A little early but after 5-10 games lots of these ratings provide a somewhat fair representation of what the player can/will give on their average/best/worst day with this surrounding cast.
* Argument to be made that Shelton, Poku, KWS, Calle have not had enough starts (vs coming on as sub) to judge properly as the rating system favors players who have more time on the pitch (assuming they don't totally screw up that time).

Top rating for each player:
8.8 - Villa vs NE
8.4 - Saunders at Col
8.2 - Jacobson vs Phi
8.1 - Hernandez vs NE
8.0 - Mix at Orl
8.0 - Nemec vs NE
7.9 - Ballouchy vs Chi
7.9 - Brovsky vs Por
7.9 - Wingert vs Por
7.9 - Calle vs Phi
7.7 - KWS vs Por
7.6 - Grabavoy at NJ
7.4 - Shelton vs Phi
7.4 - Poku vs Phi
7.2 - Mullins vs Sea
7.1 - Williams at NJ
6.8 - Velasquez at Col

Average rating for each player:
7.20 - Hernandez
7.01 - Mix
7.00 - Ballouchy
6.97 - Brovsky
6.93 - Wingert
6.90 - Nemec
6.84 - Saunders
6.84 - Villa
6.80 - KWS
6.80 - Williams
6.79 - Grabavoy
6.77 - Jacobson
6.75 - Shelton
6.69 - Mullins
6.62 - Poku
6.59 - Calle
6.35 - Velasquez

Worst rating for each player:
6.6 - Hernandez at NJ
6.5 - Grabavoy at Col
6.5 - Williams at Phi
6.4 - Nemec at Col
6.3 - Mix at NJ
6.3 - KWS at Col (6.4 vs Sea with a red card)
6.2 - Brovsky at Phi
6.2 - Saunders at Phi
6.2 - Shelton at Col
6.2 - Mullins at Chi
6.2 - Poku at NJ
6.0 - Ballouchy at NJ
5.9 - Villa at NJ
5.9 - Calle at Orl
5.9 - Velasquez at Orl
5.9 - Wingert vs Sea
5.1 - Jacobson at Chi (red card; 6.4 next lowest)

Range (i.e., difference from highest to lowest rating; smaller number means greater consistency)
0.6 - Williams
0.9 - Velasquez
1.0 - Mullins
1.1 - Grabavoy
1.2 - Shelton
1.2 - Poku
1.4 - KWS
1.5 - Hernandez
1.6 - Nemec
1.7 - Mix
1.7 - Brovsky
1.9 - Ballouchy
2.0 - Wingert
2.0 - Calle
2.2 - Saunders
2.8 - Villa
3.1 - Jacobson

Other observations:
* Allen has one of the highest ratings (8.0 at NJ) and the lowest (4.0 vs Chi).
* Meara, despite his horrible gaff that gave up the goal at Chi, had a 7.5 rating that game for the second best keeper rating of the season, beating all of Saunders's games except his 8.4 at Col.
* If you take away the best and worst games for each player, the player whose average rating changes the most is Villa, whose average rating goes down 0.17. In other words, his one really great game (rating wise) against NE is more of a statistical fluke for him than anyone else's best or worst game is for them.

Hope you all find this as interesting as I do. (I'm a data geek.)

Thanks for putting this together.

And what I think are our most relevant team stats:
Red cards - #1
Possession - #2
Shots/game - #8
Shots on target/game - #9
Offense - #14
Shots against/game - #19
Defense - #14
Overall rating - #14
PPG - #20
* If we were in Europe we would be in the relegation zone.

Lineup considerations:
The big blow to Kreis' master plan this week is no RJ Allen, having gotten a red card after being pickpocketed and toasted on friday night. Not having Grabavoy was barely noticeable, and I think he and Ballouchy are indistinguishable, they are 'replacement level' to me. I'd play Ballouchy, as at least he showed that he can shoot the ball, but they both make safe passes equally well. Its Poku time again, until JK proves to us that its not Poku time. Since our Defense can't get the ball to the forwards, we really need Nemec in there, and pray Calle can come back.

I'd go with:
--------------Saunders------------
------Hernandez---Facey--------
Brovsky------------------Calle-----
-----------Poku-----------------
------Mix------------Ballouchy----
--Mullins-----Nemec-------Villa--
