No Complaints: Revs, NYCFC give thumbs up to Yankee Stadium turf
College football will test the Yankee Stadium turf today
"some in Major League Baseball are concerned about how well the Yankee Stadium turf will hold up under so much wear and tear."
In other words, yes.
The careful use of language is more than half of my job. Words like "turf" suck.
Is this thread about to get hijacked by a Robert Moses discussion?
Can't say many forum audiences would have any idea about Robert Moses. One of the many reasons I am proud to be a part of this one.
Well played.
One last turf point and I'll move on. If turf were to start meaning fake grass exclusively, and stopped meaning real grass, I'd be completely OK with that. When it comes to language I'm generally a descriptivist not a proscriptivist. Language changes, words alter their meanings, and I'm fine with that. But a word that means one thing and it's direct opposite -- in the exact same context -- is nuts.
Not sure why turf can't mean fuzzy stuff on the ground. Astroturf and grass are not opposites to me. Not sure what the opposite of grass is, maybe deep space or something. One last turf point and I'll move on. Because the whole point is to distinguish between grass and the artificial stuff. When you ask "what type of surface does that stadium have" and the answer comes back "turf," you know nothing. Not sure why turf can't mean fuzzy stuff on the ground. Not sure that word is capable of doing what you are asking. IMO if your question is what is the surface in the stadium the answer would have to be natural grass/turf etc or artificial grass/turf etc. I think turf more implies ground covered by some material. Keep the ball on the turf. he was driven into the turf. YMMVBecause the whole point is to distinguish between grass and the artificial stuff. Yes.Right after we play the whitecaps. Coincidence?
Or J-Lew (but probably you're right)Based on Pirlo's inclusion in the prior game, I think we see him in the midfield along with Ring and Herrera. McNamara gets moved to LW with Villa and Harrison up top.
Based on this, I think we have a different style of play from what we've seen in the past couple games.

I don't know.... first we go North of the Wall to meet the Whitecaps on their frozen turf.... then TFC marches south to our keep. It is written that days later the Fire arrives at our doorstep..... only to see TFC rise up from their ashes again to do battle and then have to put down the False King RB as they ride from the South...... & over five matches - that's a LOT of coincidences.....Yes.
