australia and qatar backed out due to WC qualifiers happening in june, but qatar did accept invitation to go to the gold cup.

As of yesterday argentina was still hosting it and conmebol was looking at additional stadiums in argentina to host games. Chile seems to have been named as a potential backup to host games, but there seems to be real pushback from people in Chile.

of course knowing conmebol its one thing today and another tomorrow.

So Brazil got the copa America. Based on some tweets from Spanish twitter, the US had a good chance of getting it but the US wanted to push the tournament dates to later time. Some said late July others said October/November, so Brazil got it.
