Was curious to see how each of our coaches faired during the season and it seems like they were both able to amass 1 OCSC in their respective halves of the season this year.

Patrick Vieira's record: 8-3-4

Dome Torrent's record: 8-7-4

Orlando's record: 8-22-4
Taken from BigSoccer.

Think of how frustrated we have all been with this team lately, then, imagine being an Orlando supporter.

Smile!

I think a huge barometer between Dome and Vieira will be if we win on Wednesday, playing in a two legged series. Dome has had much experience with that in UEFA Champions League with Pep. How will it play out for him in NYCFC?

If he wins a two-legger and gets us at least to the conference championship, I think he will end up forgiven by most and the mood will be optimistic over the winter.

Possibly. Squeaking into the Conf finals only to then get absolutely blown up in them may cause problems with that hypothesis.

Tough crowd.

Agreed. As long as we get by Atlanta, by hook or crook, Dome would have taken us farther than PV ever did. Furthermore, I don't see any red weddings in our future with Dome at the helm. I'm also really interested in the match tonight. DCU will not be an easy out for NJ, those teams hate each other, and especially if they have to go there to play the 1st leg. As much as we're excited we drew a reeling Atlanta team, they are probably worried they might have to go in cold to Audi Field with DCU and Rooney going on all cylinders.

Realistic and honest crowd.

Is it realistic to expect NYCFC to beat the two best teams in MLS history back to back?

We should be pulling for Columbus tonight. They're an underrated team and the only one in the conference that's shown they can handle the Red Bulls.

Yep.
Crew one of only 2 teams to beat RB at RBA this year (and only one after CCL ended).
Red Bulls one of only 2 teams to beat DC in Audi Field.

You’re asking a different question than what you commented on before. If NYCFC squeaks into the finals and then gets destroyed, I absolutely do not think that positively moves the needle for how Dome has been - while it shows up as winning one series and losing another, the eye test shows the realism of performance and the larger void between type of win/loss.

To your recent question, yes, if we want to be MLS champs, realistic or not, we have to beat those two teams. You keep saying how good the team is with the advanced stats, which I’m on the record as saying A.S. in soccer are bunk, so if you don’t think it’s realistic then what’s that say about a team many say is one of the two/three most talented in the league???

I believe DCU's loss at Audi is pre-Rooney. So that makes a big difference. Also, what these charts don't show is momentum. CLB has been on the downswing since the first 1/3 of the season. DCU has been on the upswing in the last 1/3 (because of Rooney). There's also a history of NJ losing to DCU that you can't discount is in their heads. Just like if we were to play NJ it would be in ours. There's more to this than just the numbers. Even the prettiest AS has its hole ;)

I'm still waiting for DC to win a road game.

They may not need to until the MLS championship game. They play at home tonight, and every round after is home/away with total goals going through. If they take care of business at home (in a convincing way) they can lose every away match and still advance.

Close to pre-Rooney, but I think it counts as pre-Rooney. It was his third game and the last one he played which he didn't start before really becoming a key cog for the team.

But ultimately, if we were to beat Philly and then Atlanta, and say lose in the Conference Finals, you'll still find plenty of people here looking to discredit it. They'll say, big whoop they won a home playoff game against Philly and then beat a team whose coach was one foot out the door and whose top playmaker was either not playing or just coming off an injury. I'm sure some other narratives will get slipped in there.
