Close to pre-Rooney, but I think it counts as pre-Rooney. It was his third game and the last one he played which he didn't start before really becoming a key cog for the team.
Also the loss was at RBA. The more recent a 3-3 draw was at Audi Field. Still a great scoreline for RB in a 2 leg tie, but that was 6 weeks ago and DC are even further in their pomp right now.

Re: Columbus - we were in a pretty bad slide until 120 minutes ago, so who knows. I don't follow them closely enough.

Re: advanced stats or stats in general - the problem is that they don't make a lot of sense unless sample sizes are large, and they aren't generally used to predict inflection points, versus the things that happen during stable periods. Which is ok, they are just one tool.

The one I was referring to was the first game at Audi Field, that was Rooney's third game with DCU and he played 33' in which DCU lost to Red Bulls 3-1. I completely missed the game you are referring to.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about too. DCU has been growing into their own skin with each match and getting more confident at home. I'm really curious to see if the first 15 minutes tonight match the intensity they brought when we played there 2 weeks ago.

Agreed. As long as we get by Atlanta, by hook or crook, Dome would have taken us farther than PV ever did. Furthermore, I don't see any red weddings in our future with Dome at the helm. I'm also really interested in the match tonight. DCU will not be an easy out for NJ, those teams hate each other, and especially if they have to go there to play the 1st leg. As much as we're excited we drew a reeling Atlanta team, they are probably worried they might have to go in cold to Audi Field with DCU and Rooney going on all cylinders.

I might be too easily swayed but we won a playoff game for the first time ever. The team was fun to watch, played exciting soccer and appeared well prepared. Between last night's game and the statistical schooling I received from dummyrun 's article I'm already optimistic about next year regardless of what happens in the next round.

Doesn't matter. I'll keep saying it until they win one because the Pavlovian response from you and Ulrich is amusing.
Gosh.... you’re gonna be like the Pavlovian Japanese dog Hachiko waiting by the train station for his master to return from work not realizing he’s passed away.

He looked like a different man as the game was starting - none of the usual waves and goofy smile, instead a look like he was about to get into a scrap. He was super intense during the game, even dropping some f’ bombs along the way. The team showed the same demeanor, which was a stark contrast from how they looked for big games under PV. Tactics aside, maybe Dome is a big game motivator.

Had I not flaked and forgotten mgarbowski's Playoff Picks contest, I may well have picked DC over the Red Fools. I was considering it. Not crazy to think they could pull it off the way they've been playing and given the history between the franchises.

And when that time comes Wayne Rooney still will not have won an Away game with DC.

We should be pulling for Columbus tonight. They're an underrated team and the only one in the conference that's shown they can handle the Red Bulls.

Hooray stats!

Let's make believe the season began on June 11. Just for fun.

NYCFC went 8-7-4 from June 11 on (after Dome arrived).

If you take the standings starting on June 11, that would have put them 6th in the East, and 11th in MLS.

The Red Bulls were 20 points better than us. Atlanta was 11 points better.

So yes, Dome did an atrocious job.

The only reason Dome got half of those points at the beginning was because of Lewis, a guy banished. Take his rescues away, and Domes record in your 2nd-half scenario puts him in the bottom portion of the East

You're right -- what were we, 5-0-1 in his first six games? Fine. Let's go after that hot streak, let's begin this when he started tinkering.

From July 29 through the end of the season, we were 3-6-4. That's 13 points in 13 games, and 8th place in the East from that date onwards.

THIS ROSTER.

This freakin' roster, which was good enough to win MLS Cup, managed 3 regular-season wins in 13 games after Dome started tinkering.

It's not the players. The players were good enough. It was the coach.

Those three wins were against: Chicago, Philadelphia, and Toronto. Any time we faced even a semi-capable team, we got killed.
