Domènec Torrent Appointed NYCFC Head Coach (June '18) / Mutually Agree to Part Ways (November '19)

With the win over Vancouver, Domé Torrent has raised his PPG as NYCFC coach above that of Patrick Vieira. Vieira coached roughly 2.5 seasons (83 games) and earned 139 points for 1.675 PPG. Torrent stumbled severely after 5 wins in his first 6 games, and through the first 6 games this year, he had 33 points in 25 games for 1.320 PPG. Since then the team is 14-4-3 (2.143 PPG) and his overall record is 22-12-12 for 1.696 PG.
This doesn't prove who is a better coach. Nor is it certain that Torrent's record will remain above Vieira's in either the short or long term. But I think it's notable that Torrent reached this milestone rather quickly after being rather far back.
For completeness, Kreis had a 1.088 PPG in 34 games and NYCFC is 71-51-41 for 1.558 PPG overall.

The core of PV’s team was more than a mess after Kreis ruined it through its initial creation - took him his entire tenure to replace the damaged goods that couldn’t be done in one fell swoop. Dome inherited a team essentially intact and already running on all cylinders when PV left. Those are data points that greatly influence the ability to accumulate points.

I could see this being true. Dome came into a well oiled machine and broke it. Villa probably wasn't too happy with that and they disagreed on the future of the club.

As many analysts have said, one could argue dome has created a better machine. One that can adapt to the game and do it flawlessly.

I miss Villa cause he was always dependable and one of my favorite players of all time. I sometimes wonder what our season would be like this year if he was still here. Granted we wouldn't have Mitri but Heber may have still arrived to replace Jo. Imagine a Villa Heber taty front line with maxi, ring and parks behind them. Scary for any defensive line to think about.

I wonder how true this really is. I will say that it's been odd how completely out of the picture Villa has been this season. Granted, he is playing half-a-world away, but there has been little from him about NYC. Nothing on Twitter wishing us luck before a big game; none of that kind of stuff. Maybe that will change after he's been out a while - maybe not.

For those curious, he has scored 11 goals this season in 21 appearances. He's generally been healthy, missing only 5 games for injury.

Sadly, the J League season ends in December, so he wouldn't be clear to come to NYC for any playoff games even if he were so inclined.

we tried that and it was failing ( win less in like 5-6) thats why they went for heber in like late march. it wasnt working so we needed something up top.

EDIT: i dont think anyone was going to admit the missing piece. if villa was here he would be there with taty and not heber thats just how i see it.

Make no mistake, Dome was the recipient of being part of Pep’s entourage who agreed to take the reigns after PV bolted. That CFG showed up at the beginning of this year to pass judgement showed Dome was hanging on by a thread.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dome leaves after 2020 to take a job in Europe or return to Pep's side, especially with Pep having a lot of trouble right now. It would be a great loss for us as a club and would suck to have to go through the growing pains of a new coach, new system, and/or playing style. no doubt, new players as well. If we win MLS cup and continue our form through 2020 for another deep run or possible repeat, there's no doubt in my mind that Dome will be gone to a club in Europe. I think he's pretty fed up with the travel and refs as well, so a good offer is all it would take for him not to extend his contract with us.

That's all certainly possible. The interesting question is what kind of club would be enough to make him go. He had opportunities in Spain when he decided to come to New York.

He loves the city, which is one thing that plays very strongly in our favor.
