That's a little complicated to answer. I have a perfectly normal Stubhub account, but apparently it's different in each region so I had to make a UK Stubhub account. But you can't just buy a ticket to a match as they're all tied to a Man City account. That means that Stubhub doesn't actually have ownership of the ticket, they're just connecting you to to the ticket owner. So hard to say if it was sketchy or perfectly normal.
Here's how Stubhub bills it: "Manchester City tickets are on sale now at StubHub. Buy and sell your Manchester City Soccer tickets today. Tickets are 100% guaranteed by FanProtect." So basically they're saying if it doesn't work they'll refund you, in a sense. So I think there's no real ticket transfer process that's supported by the clubs the way we have it here. There are a few officially allowed ticket resellers. Stubhub is not one of them but it was a few years ago so maybe they were then, I don't remember.
I have to say the whole experience was, well, weird. Maybe fake ticket sales were rampant at one point so they made it so only "official" club accounts could get them? A lot of things were odd that way. I wanted to go to the London Transport Museum but you can't just buy a ticket. You have to get an annual pass for the museum and then you can book timed tickets, which are free.
But even getting "normal" tickets directly from the club is weird. You have to have a paid yearly membership for £35.00 (but you might need one per seat, not sure). But then you can't just buy a ticket as you sort of have to apply for one. So the more tickets you've purchased in the past the better your chances of having one available for a match you're interested in. The whole thing's a little bizarre.
Bottom line is I got my tickets and was able to go to the match. Which was awesome, but way more complicated than I ever imagined.
