Frank Lampard Thread

When asked about the unfortunate timing of his new publication, and what kind of message it sends to slighted fans of NYCFC, Frank Lampard had this to say:
guess-what-i-dont-give-a-fuck.jpg

I hate to beat a dead horse here, but I bring this up as a counter to the folks who make the point about Lampard staying with MCFC because they're in a title run.

Giovinco, who initially agreed to move to Toronto FC in July, is now joining them for the start of the MLS season. This is a kid would came up through the Juventus system, and played for them for much of his career. Also, Juve is pretty much guaranteed the Scudetto this year and they're still in the Champions League. Despite all this, the kid decides to leave all that to play with Toronto. He knows that Toronto is his future, and he wants to make an impact right away.

That's fuckin' class and dedication right there.

But hey Lampard bailing at the first opportunity shows his dedication to NYCFC and we're supposed to give him a hero's welcome when he decides to grace us with his presence otherwise we're not real fans.

In all fairness, he's getting a mammoth raise to come early.

Lampard rides the bench, too. He would get more playing time with NYCFC, and probably be the captain of the team if he were here.
He said that was what he wanted when he got here he said he wanted to be the leader of the team, his intentions was to get the captaincy, looks like that is not going to happen.

Let's face it, the suits that signed Lampard did so to have the brand name of "Frank Lampard" more than anything.

It's a good deal for Kreis as Lampard can probably teach others a thing or two but selling jerseys and season tickets was probably the motive more than any and I am concerned about Lampards ability to go a full 90 game-in and game-out.

Signing Giovinco is purely about winning. He has no brand. He's young. He can start a whole season. He has good talent. He'll be here from day 1.

I'm envious.

This 100%, and its not even like he is a bad player. I am willing to bet Giovinco will contribute as much, if not more, than Lampard once they're both playing regularly in the league.

Lampard might be a bench player, but he's played in a lot more games than Giovinco has, a lot more.

Giovinco's move now was smart for him, and for Juve. They offloaded his salary and he gets playing time, and more importantly gets a nice bump in pay.

Great post. This was as much about Juve offloading his salary now as it was determination by TFC to get him over here now. Different situation.

Exactly. Nobody should kid themselves if Giovinco thought he had a real shot at the Juve first team he would be still there and Juve would never have sold him. That's not to say he will not be great for TFC, just as long as he is not great when he plays us.

All hitting the nail on the head, summed up in that Lampard has scored more league goals than Giovinco has played league matches for Juventus since Giovinco's debut stretching back nine years. Yes i know he was on loan at Empoli and Parma which reinforces the point, fine player than he is, he was never really good enough for Juve at one of their worst periods.
