Galaxy Postmatch

2 thoughts on the match:

#1: Elfath might be the worst referee in professional soccer, worldwide. I wouldn’t let him referee a peewee soccer match among 6 year olds.

#2: I’m convinced that nycfc has an under the table deal with big Pharma, particularly companies that produce heart medicine. There is no other explanation for why we play this “out of the back” style where we consistently play the ball towards our own goal, with every pass we make backwards exponentially increasing our chances of a catastrophic turnover.

Great win though!
I hope you didn't think too hard on these thoughts.

One thing I'd like to bring up is how terrible we played the second half added time. We had three or four breakaways and went for goal. This is not professional soccer. Go to the corner. Waste time. Use the clock. I can't understand why we went towards the goal. Matarrita led two of them and I get that he wants to play but it's not just about getting on the scoresheet. Get the ball to the corner of their end and kill the game.

100% disagree. That is how you play if you are the inferior team. We were a) not the inferior team, b) up a man.

How many times have you seen Man City, or Barca, or Bayern or whoever this season go the corner flag in a 1 goal game? Score a goal. Put the game on ice. Kill their will.

Was Juve the inferior team to Spurs. No. When you want to pull off the win you do it at all costs no matter what team you are playing.

I watched Chelsea today (or yesterday) against Crystal Palace spend the last 5-6 minutes punting it around in the corner, trying to win throws and corners to slow the game down, nothing to do with who's superior, it's just a clever tactic.

You are askew on this one. I've seen City take it to the corner, stand on it, fight for it until it's out of play and then sub the guy who did it because he's farthest from the line .

Complete lack of professionalism by Mata at the end .

I was at section 135 located below GA area. I was expecting to hear more chants (myself singing more), but it was less loud than I expected. Maybe It was because of inconsistent drums beats. I really appreciate the efforts of the drummers who come to the game every match and play the drums for the team. But is there anyway the beats can be more consistent across GA and around section 135 and 136? I have been at GA, section 135, and 136 areas. I felt like today was a lot quieter match than other matches. I'm sorry if I'm wrong...

Watch the Man City-Man United derby. Man City just toys with United in the final minutes.

Or, do what we did to finish the first half, and just play simple possession passes around our own half.

Uh oh, you're not one of those "building play out of the back doesn't work in MLS" types are you? I mean, if you wanted to roll that out you should have been posting here in Vieria's first season. ;) (Srsly, though; I presume you're not actually unfamiliar with this style of build-up play?)

I think the handwringing about the last few minutes of the game is because the team was up a man, and yet Galaxy kept getting possession and bringing it up the field. It just takes one mistake/missed tackle, etc.

Up a man, either pass the ball around or take it to the corner and keep winning throw ins or corners. Too close for comfort - however I think the team did say that they know they have to be better in future games at just this.

We had subbed out Villa and Medina by the end when time wasting was called for so that probably hurt our possession ability a little.

Was very impressed with the aforementioned old man and kid along with Tinnerholm and Callens probably some others I'm forgetting to single out for praise. We could have had it out of sight by half time but I'm going to keep my sky blue tinted glasses on and come away with the "Wait till we fully gel" POV as opposed to criticizing the finishing at all. Think we'll be REALLY dangerous before long.

Barely noticed the cold during the match. Felt a lot more on the walk back to the train. Was seated behind the goal where all the goals were scored which always makes for nice viewing .

When we have a good win, Christopher Jee Christopher Jee likes every post.

It’s his most endearing quality. That, and his views on sexual objectification.
Perhaps, but it's not like our posting timbre is the same whether we play well or not. Maybe my liking more posts has more to do with the actual posts than my likelihood of liking. Or maybe it's a mix!

I guess I’m not as familiar with it, but it also seems that with the level of quality in the back that we seem to have, it’s bloody nerve-wracking to watch. If we prove we’re able to keep our composure in our back line when the pressure comes, I’m all for it. I guess I prefer more of an attacking approach rather than keeping possession in our back third, if we know that our back line is susceptible to giving the ball away.

You do realize that the 1 goal given up this season did not come from Sweat’s side of the field, right? He may not be pretty, but holy hell for his cap price, he’s the best LB value in the league as a competent defender that adds selectively to the offense.

The sequence where LAG scored started with Ben Sweat refusing to put the ball out of play. That would have been the smart decision. I was yelling at the screen for him to make the sage play. He didn't. The ball is turned over, Johnson compounds the mistake and LAG score.

I said it last week and I'll say it again this week: This team is really, really, really good. This has the makings of a fun season.

Jesus Medina: Any questions. That kid is the truth. Looks like a great signing.

Once again, we see why Tinnerholm was a fan-favorite in Sweden. Dude is a gamer.

Ring and Herrera were both dominant in midfield -- those two guys might be the most important guys on the field for us week in and week out, they're great.

I barely ever noticed Ibeagha tonight. Sign of a good centerback. The depth this club has this year is tremendous -- PV finally has starting options coming off the bench, should lead to squad rotation, which should keep everyone fresh in October and November.
