Galaxy Postmatch

So are you saying you think Jack to Medina is a lateral move so far?

I think yes. And I am saying that anticipating that Jack would have continued to improve.

FWIW Jack is an $8 Million rated player and Medina is a $4 Million rated player. We k ow those numbers are BS, but the output of Medina is what I expected of Jack this year. On one hand, this makes me happy. On another, imagine both those guys on this squad.

One thing I'd like to bring up is how terrible we played the second half added time. We had three or four breakaways and went for goal. This is not professional soccer. Go to the corner. Waste time. Use the clock. I can't understand why we went towards the goal.. Matarrita led two of them and I get that he wants to play but it's not just about getting on the scoresheet. Get the ball to the corner of their end and kill the game.
Was saying the same thing in my section.

I think Jack was the better dribbler, more dynamic with the ball at his feet. But Medina is a far better passer, which is the kind of thing that doesn't make the highlight sheet, but it really opens up the offense. So it depends which skill you value the most. I tend to think as flashy and fun to watch as Jack was, Medina will be far better at initiating offense.

And I still don’t get people slacking on Wallace. If you don’t see why he starts, I just can’t be messageboard pals with you. The guy is just a general menace. If he could finish, he’d start for 15 PL teams.

I'll bite on this one because I want to hear more. What have you found menacing about Wallace?

Against SKC his only positive contribution in the attacking third was the 14' cross that Medina couldn't quite get to.

Yesterday he was better, but not by much. On Tinnerholm's goal Maxi was making the backside run that Wallace should have made. Ditto the second goal, where he jogged behind the break and was nowhere near the box by the time Villa slotted home the rebound from an area Wallace should have been helping to cover.

Over 180 minutes this season, Wallace has two shots, one on target. He has no assists or even a key pass. In the attacking third, he's got two completed passes, no defensive actions, and no ball recoveries.

Here's my favorite example from yesterday of Wallace being a general menace:

I'm thinking I need a new Cato the Elder-style signature: Furthermore, I am of the opinion that Lewis must get minutes.

I wish.

Wallace is our glue guy. When he's on and playing well, the whole team works better. He presses and excels at 1-2 combos to release other guys. He's strong and experienced and intelligent.

Is he the best player in the world? Hardly .but he's a necessary choice among our options .

Agreed. Medina’s passing has been what surprised me the most so far - I thought they were getting another dribbler, when he would get the ball in space 1v1 I was expecting the “Harrison” dribble and instead he was looking for passing options. That passing sequence with Villa where Villa was a little off kilter and put it over the bar was money too.

I know PV is managing his minutes but can’t wait to see Medina burn fools on the counter deep into games.

Mata subbed in for Wallace, leaving Sweat at LB. If that was switched and Sweat was at LW and Mata at LB do you think that would be better? Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan
I don't know...maybe? I think sweat doesn't look awful defending at Cb, but fullback he does .I think he just doesn't have quick feet or the best balance or something.

To me it is hard to compare because Jack had Ethan White and RJ Allen at RB playing on his side. If Jack had Tinnerholm, his output would surely have been better last year IMO.

Agreed that Jack would have fared better with Tinner, but at the same time there's things I'm seeing that lead me to believe Medina will be better all-around.
  • Jack often suffered from tunnel vision - 1v1 and step-overs all day long.
  • Medina seems to be more of a team player, aware of all available options in the final 3rd.
  • I don't think Jack (successfully) makes that run that led to Villa's goal.
  • Medina seems to have a good defensive work rate.
    • Pretty sure he made a tackle or two way over in Sweat's jurisdiction.

Lewis' stats for NYC: 342 minutes on the field. That needs to double this year, or send him on loan.

ETA: Did some shady early-morning math, and this is what I came up with: give him 4 starts. If he starts 4 games, he will basically match last year's minutes. From there, if he proves his worth, he makes the 18. A couple minutes here and there (works out to 8 min / game after the 4 starts), he will have roughly doubled his 2017 minutes.

So yea, that's what I'm asking for. 4 starts.

Kind of hard to say till we see more of our options, right? Along with #PlayYourLewis, I'm interested to see what Berget has to offer on the left wing—he was surprisingly active there for Malmö.
I firmly think Lewis should get more minutes, never waivered from that. You've seen enough of my posts to know that.

I can't call Berget an option until we see something out of him.

He's the Phil Jagielka of MLS
