Home - Nycfc V Philadelphia - 04/16

I watched large chunks of the match. Though soccer is my favorite I'm enough of a hockey/Rangers fan that this was a back and forth on the remote night with the playoffs underway. What I did catch we showed some promise but were frustrating. Should have been more than 1-0 it seemed by the time they inevitably tied it. I was impressed with Shelton, Poku and Calle really hope all 3 start along with Mix and Villa on Sunday. Hope Villa is not serious would hate to see him be a miss every other match sort like some of the DP's in this league have turned out to be especially since I will be going Sunday.

I won't ever turn my fandom for this club into a constant demand of Win, Win, Win.

This is not Real Madrid or Arsenal (and I'm a gooner, they have some fickle fans).

We won't build a stable club if our support is only based on performance.

We can't take the Enron approach to support. At least I won't.

We need alot of work. It's our first season and there are alot of factors working against us. .

We play in a baseball stadium.
We have stewards that are ushering people out of the Supporters Section for standing on bench's.
We are missing 1 dp.
We haven't signed the last dp slot.
They have only regular mustard and not spicy at the concession stand
The kicks ass band was far away from the SS
and finally...
I can't get a chimi-changa anywhere!

Obviously I'm joking. Lighten up! Support isn't always about "Please me or go to hell".

It's more along the lines of, and I'm paraphrasing a Greek phrase here, If we are damned to hell, then we walk through the gates together. If heaven is our fate, then we will celebrate like kings.

COYB!!!

See everyone Sunday! For reference, I was the guy in 237 screaming my head off with a tattoo on my forearm and a shaved head.
I'll lighten up when we don't start guys who are replacement USL level. Until then, I'm going to call out shit players as shit players. It's the way I support. I don't take it personally. But if I'm going to spend the time and money to support a team, I'm shorting myself if I don't call out stupidity.

You do realize that just because you buy a ticket doesn't mean you own the team.

I respect your opinion and right to do whatever you like.

But basing your happiness (or content with your team, since you said "I'll lighten up when..") on their place in the league is foolhardy, unnecessary and against the principals of this game.

I think it's an American problem.

We play the World Series with just our country.

The Super Bowl isn't so super since we are the only ones who play football. If there was relegation in this country and separate football leagues, which by all account they actually should, we might be able to build a culture of support instead of cities like Miami.

We seem to take an immense amount of pride in dismissing the sports we aren't good at and only playing the ones we claim are the greatest, because we can't stand to be bad at anything. That attitude is shown here as well.

We are all entitled to the best of everything, all the time, without exception. If it isn't "the best", then we reject it outright.

This is a country where we measure success by the amount of zero's at the end of our checks.

It sad that we only consider the worth of a person if he is a go-getter or aggressive with business. It's the same with this club, if we aren't first, we are nothing. If we aren't willing to treat players like trash and bench them the second they have a bad game, we aren't serious enough.

Now I don't like Nemac, but he deserves a run out. He is part of the club and deserves a chance, even if it's against my wishes, I will clap and cheer him on.

Just like me, I may be considered a flake for just loving a club in NYC that I can take a train to. I may be considered "not as serious" if I don't whistle and yell at the players for having a bad game. I mean shit, these are people, not FIFA pixels.

It's the same with this club. For some glory hunters, just being a part of it isn't good enough, just singing in the terraces, making new friends and laughing drunken, silly laughs over nothing and everything at once seems to be of too little substance for you, and people of your ilk.

I refuse to base, just as I do with people, the value of this club on what they can do for me.

And as long as you wear blue, I'll be happy to stand right next to you.

Just let me know before you start carping so I can put my headphones in. :)

P.S. - Had a few to drink, sorry for the long winded reply. Had a ton of fun tonight in the stands, especially holding my Sunday Church Third Rail Hymn Sheet

We should have scored at least two more goals during this game. The way we tied felt like a loss. We definitely need a defender as a DP. I watch the highlights and nobody was marking that Philly player. After the game Khiry went over the stands and signed/took photos with everyone, spent like 10 minutes there. He's a class act. When the Philly players were walking back into the locker room I called out their keeper for wearing a middle school helmet and that this isn't the NFL, grow up. Can't wait until Sunday.

Stadium wasnt too packed. This was my first home game. We didnt sit in our seats as so many better seats were open. (section 234) People came in well into the game and left before it finished which effected how the stadium looked. This was a thursday though so I wasnt expecting a big crowd.

Ballouchy was lucky he still sucks and shouldnt start. Cocky too....

Poku needs to start. Him and Mix will be a killer team.

Shelton is now a starter and should remain so. Calle was decent. Brovsky got a haircut but still sucks. We always concede in the last minutes. I hope David Villa is ok.

Nemec...is Nemec. I have hope in him. Not for Brovsky. Wingert isnt playing in the right position. What happened to Hernandez?

We had a lot of good chances. Defense sucked. Cant wait for the next game. Got a replica jersey.

Ill always be a fan of this team. Win or lose. Im in for the long haul. We are an expansion team. Give it time.

I don't like to disagree with you because I respect your opinion(and fear your wrath), but calling someone who made it to a pro league; who plays with Villa, Mix and Suanders as shit is out of line. Its the way I support

i dont think khiry should start.
he missed an absolute sitter in the first half, off a beautiful play from nemec and i believe villa, setting him up in 20 yards of space to just take a touch and finish, but no, he hit me in section 233.
he dribbled the rookie keeper, nice! now take the freakin PK since you just dribbled into the corner..... he's got a long way to go. keep him as a sub.

Khiry running fresh at them would have done more damage. But we wasted subs on the injuries which hurt us. He needs more starts, needs to make better passing decisions. With more reps playing with Villa and Nemec he can learn and develop better chemistry.

Yeah you can't turn your back to the fact we have very poor players in key positions on our starting 11.
Then again you look at today and it's probably the best we have looked through the first 70 minutes and then calle/Hernandez came off and teams began to exploit our weaknesses.
Makes you wonder why are players cramping up and unable to go 90 during cool weather and 5 weeks into the season.

Give me a tl;dr. Dude, it's a fucking game. I'm aware. sticking with one platitude per post is plenty. And please realize I am well aware and capable of distinguishing between play time and real life.

I just kind of assume that most people get that I'm speaking in hyperbole. I'm not going to sell my possessions and give up watching soccer over us being shit. I may burn a fucing Brosky shirt or three if given the opportunity.

Yup, and David Villa should not be allowed back on the field after leaving Sapong wide open on the goal.

Well, this one leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We do have some players who do not belong on the field in this league. Unfortunately, that's the way it's going to be. We are an expansion side, were going to have terrible players and it's going to take time until our roster is good enough to push those terrible players onto the bench permanently. If you expected a whole lot better at this point in the season, your expectations were a bit unreasonable. Hopefully our terrible players gain some competence over the course of the season, and our raw players like Shelton can improve (I think he has been overrated in this thread) at least to the point where we can perhaps sneak into the playoffs. We have some pieces, Kreis is moving them around, hopefully they all fall into place and we can make a run.
As a former Revs supporter, they have been the key example of never give up on your team. They had years where they started just as bad or worse than us before running into MLS Cup (and losing, five times lol), even last year they lost close to ten games in a row in the middle of the year and looked awful. It takes time to find out where the best fits are, hopefully Kreis will find them soon and give us something to cheer about!

Yeah, hyperbole, sure. Maybe it's just that you dismiss remarks you don't agree with. Fair enough, but not answering would be just easier.

Here's TL:DR on your post. I'll help you with the word that you misused, because after all, you're speaking in hyperbole right. I'll speak Verbatim. That means word for word just in case. And we might as well define the rest of them for you, no?

Plat·i·tude - a remark or statement, especially one with a moral content, that has been used too often to be interesting or thoughtful.

hy·per·bo·le - exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally

Now if you'd like to speak in hyperbole, please make it interesting so we at least know you are. You'll fool the rest of us that speak literally, and since I don't have a Midas Mulligan translator here (I must have left it next to my Esperanto Daily Digest) And I don't know of any moral compass that takes the Super Bowl into account, so no platitude for you.

I'll just have to read what you write. I know, crazy huh?

Agreed with quite a bit of this - I do wish we were playing better, but agree that expectations need to be tempered - most teams going into a season have 3-5 players to sort out where they will be best suited/fit the team. We had/have a whole squad. I am glad to see some more bench players getting time and players shifting positions. I liked seeing Calle play at fullback on the left side. I think Mix and Villa playing the whole game could have made a big difference, that being said - we will see what happens. I know the team is still gelling and working it out - I just hoped for more coming out of the buy. Maybe not more to look at but at least a few more points.

So for Sunday - I'd like to see Poku and Mullins get some time. Calle play fullback again, and Shelton come on as a sub but at the half. I feel a fresh Khiry and Poku coming on would be a lot for a team to handle.

All that being said - I'd like to win a game or two soon. Just to get my personal sporting mojo back.

We've played 6 games, and of those 1.5, or 25% have been without a single DP on the field.
Of 3 home games, we've played 50% with no DPs on the field.

CFG treats us like a stepchild in a Disney movie.

#Imwhatswrongwithamerica

I've got the #nycfcblues

Blaming CFG for Villa's injuries is like blaming Villa for Sapong's goal.

Given the number of games missed due to injury/international duty, the fact that this is an expansion team that has yet to play 10 games together, the fact that FFL is coming, the possibility that we pick up a 3rd DP over the summer and my belief the Kreis will not settle for this team stinking, I find it hard to believe that we will be anything less than mediocre by season's end.
