If I'm not mistaken, the league gives players a stipend for living expenses. I think it was Kjbert who confirmed this?There are still players living on $54k in places like New York City and the Bay Area. If they get a $250 fine for playing the game their club better cover it.
It's still a painful hit to those players, but how many of the 54k players play enough matches to get 5 yellows?
The average (mean and median) have doubled, maybe tripled since the last CBA.
Not really important, but these were my first thoughts when I saw those fine amounts.
I'm thinking the players would probably support increased fines as a player safety measure. While many players get yellows for time wasting or dissent, it's unlikely a player got 5 yellows without committing fouls that put players at risk of injury.
Perhaps setting the fines to a percentage of salary is more effective? I hate the idea of a team taking the financial hit....don't get yellows.
