Khiry Shelton [Forward]

I'm getting sick of all the ridiculous Khiry-bashing going on. They guy is playing well, with a goal and an assist in 3 games, and while you started your post with "I know he's young and all that..." you don't seem to really be taking that into consideration. He's 22 and only 20 games and barely 1000 minutes into his MLS career. He is going to do great things for us.

i don't know your requirements for playing well. but as a sub, hes halfway mediocre, given his change of pace. as a starter he's been wasteful. he played well against chicago, i will give him credit for that. but since then, he's been back to his poor ways.

if you're ok with a halfway mediocre waste of a first round pick who struggles at the u23 level as much as he does at senior level, then power to you.

I wouldn't be okay with that, but you are entirely wrong in your assessment.

if i'm entirely wrong then you need to re-evaluate your preferences on good soccer players.

I think scoring a goal and an assist in 3 games, constantly challenging defenders and tracking all the way back to play well on defense make him a good player for us. Not great, not even very good, but good, and with a massive upside.

Let's put it another way. He has played better than Taylor and Mendoza at that position, yet I don't see people shitting all over them on a regular basis.

because mendoza is a much better player who comes on as a sub, best his men and puts in halfway decent crosses.
tony taylor is the same shit as khiry, but older. less promising. and slightly better on the ball.
khiry cant defend, misses all his goal scoring opportunities, except one that hat to bounce off him and the goalie 3 times.
his goal and assist came in the same game, which was a good game from him- his only good game. ever.

when he can finish a 1v1 with the keeper and not miss the whole net, i'll talk less shit about him. but for now, hes a dead weight on the field who makes poor decisions, cannot cross, cannot finish, and gets taken off the ball too easily.
he can track back all the way to red bull stadium for all i care, it doesn't take away from how poor he really has been. you can be a fanboy all you want, and that's good for you. but i call it how i see it. if you suck, there's no sugar coating it. until he starts showing improvement, he's a waste.

to say he scored a goal and an assist in 3 games is false. to say he scored and got an assist in one game is accurate.
he's 6'2 and hasn't won a header in the box yet. on top of all that.

Let me help you here then. He did finish 1v1 with the keeper. Glad this argument can end now.

I feel like this goes with the two of you getting angrier and angrier as you move closer and closer to one another until a final climactic moment that ends in you making out.
And thus, NYCFCForum Slashfic was born.

In another thread today:
And also possibly because we're all not heavily armed when we come to the forum.
Well, at least I *think* we're not.

And yet none of this has anything to do with April Fool's AFAIK.

Yeah, I know. That was a rather odd thing for him to say.

That goal was kind of the low point for the Khiry-sucks crowd. Here he goes scoring nicely against the #1 pick in the draft and a goalie who nearly fouled him, and all people could do was criticize his every move and make it seem as if the ball found its own way into the net. The dude couldn't win.

You guys are so used to seeing a Euro team call up a youth kid that was playing in their system for 10 years and see a finished product that can perform at a high level. Welcome to America. Unfortunately he has to develop on the training ground and in the first team. Till last year he only had high school and college coaches guiding him. Not multi million dollar facilities and world class youth system coaches.
I usually don't reply and ignore but damn come back to reality and recognize this is the MLS and we are not Barcelona or any other Euro team you follow. If in 4-5 years we promote our first home grown and he can't make a pass to save his life then we have a problem. Khiry Shelton is not a problem.

I officially nominate this post for entry into FootyLovin FootyLovin NYCFCForums Hall of Fame! Actually, it should scroll as a banner across each and every page in the forum. It would reduce alot of the idiotic posts I see!!!

if he's not a problem then what is he? he's most definitely not a solution. but he certainly adds to our problems.

it's clear he's not ready to start on the first team, but i'm ok with him subbing on as i think he is a much better sub, as i've stated before and various other times.
i do not expect him to be a superstar player at age 21, but i expect a little more than he has done. show me you can keep up with first team players if you are to start. he played as a striker last season and could not score. he had the same amount of shots as nemec did who played half as many games
