Khiry Shelton [Forward]

I guess I'll leave cute for you , Dad. Or is it drunk uncle?

Anyways, you piss on every player for everything. So I just expect you to drop on Khiry now. The whole USA team sucked yesterday, and when your playing one forward against Brazilian youth, yes it is difficult.

Shelton has a future but it's not a starter yet in MLS.
The ignore button is wonderful.

Been invited to train with the USMNT camp. Seems a bit of a strange one that, unless hundreds of players were invited...

It's not a FIFA date so Janury camp is almost always exclusively MLS guys.

Given the injury and missed time it's great for him.

Good to know! Glad he managed to get in as it's great for the boy and the club, but I am still a little surprised given that he was pretty underwhelming. Still, there's a bunch of guys I don't know and even one unattached player in there!

A lot of this January camp is about getting the U23s together in advance of the March dates with Colombia. Shelton is a big part of that team.

Speed kills. Speed, size and skill really kills. Khiry Shelton has all those.

A mercurial talent dripping with physical gifts, Shelton spent much of the first three seasons of his college career at Oregon State frustrating MLS scouts as he teased them with potential but spent almost as much time on the shelf with various injuries as on the pitch.

But he got healthy before his senior season and blossomed into the player the MLS watchers thought he could be, winning Pac-12 offensive player of the year honors and being the only player in Division I to reach double-figures in both goals and assists in 2014.

The productivity combined prompted New York City FC to take Shelton second overall in the 2015 draft, intrigued by a six-three player with track star speed, a passer’s vision and a nose for the goal. Shelton cracked the game-day roster from the season-opener and was starting soon thereafter, using his wheels to stretch the field and create more space for crafty teammates like David Villa to operate.

The strong start to his rookie season caught the attention of U.S. U-23 national team coach Andi Herzog, who brought him into multiple camps his rookie year. Shelton’s athleticism has some thinking he may eventually settle as an overlapping fullback but whether it’s on the backline or in the attack, as long as he’s healthy Shelton figures to be giving opposing teams fits. – BROOKE TUNSTALL

I know its fashionable around here to be hating on Khiry but the idea of him as an overlapping fullback is very interesting. First time I saw it somewhere.

I am totally for him getting a runout as a RB at some point. I suggested it after the Toronto game (not to toot my own horn) where he actually did quite well defensively despite struggling on offense. It would definitely be interesting to see him get at least a shot since his offensive capabilities seem limited.

I honestly think Khiry would be fantastic coming off the bench. Let him run at and over tired defenders late in the match. His technical skills are lacking, use his greatest asset, his size and speed on exhausted legs to create chances.

i know he's young and all that bullshit... but its evident how much of a wasted talent he is in front of goal.

i've never seen a professional be in the right places to score and miss the net by so much. this isn't something you learn at this point. hes supposed to be an "offensive threat" which means whether theres a 4 year old in net or a grown man, from 6 yards away put the ball on target.

I'm getting sick of all the ridiculous Khiry-bashing going on. They guy is playing well, with a goal and an assist in 3 games, and while you started your post with "I know he's young and all that..." you don't seem to really be taking that into consideration. He's 22 and only 20 games and barely 1000 minutes into his MLS career. He is going to do great things for us.
