Melbourne Heart/city

Which raises the question of what is the appropriate starting date for our clock? The CFG deal with MLS was done (at least publicly) in May 2013, but they didn't even start playing for 22 months from then.

I'd argue the relevant date is when we played our first match, which was St. Mirren in February 2015. 34 months from February 2015 is December 2017. What championship is available in December 2017? Yes.

MLS Cup 2017 guaranteed.
There's a Lampard joke to be had here, I'm sure of it.

I saw an interesting stat in the build-up to the FFA Cup final:

There was a 33-month gap between CFG buying Manchester City and them winning their first trophy. Their first trophy was the national cup (FA Cup) and en route to the final they beat their biggest rivals (Manchester United) in the semi-finals.

Tweet this shit, man. Revelation of the year.

Haha. Aside from that I blatantly ripped it off Fox Sports Australia, I really don't use social media much. I think I've tweeted three times ever, and they were all direct messages to other people who I couldn't contact any other way. If you want to steal that stat for yourself then go for it because I won't be.

Tweeted just moments before NYCFC_Dan's phone died.

Cahill was just the icing on the cake, though. Melbourne City are going to be playing a virtual reserve team next week. They are going to lose no fewer than FIVE players next week due to yellow card accumulation for cautions picked up in that derby match.

They should buy a midfielder from us.

Starting keeper Dean Bouzanis just received a 5 match ban for calling a player a gypsy. Not long enough in my book.
Man, there goes my observational humor bit on how gypsy was the only racial slur that was still socially acceptable.

Guess comedy really can change the world.

ETA: With a victory over primary rival Red Bulls in the semi-finals (aka Conference Finals) along the way, of course.
I kept this in mind all year, too.
<sigh>

"gypsy" is an interesting term in that it's not universally derogatory AFAIK. But in Australia it's thrown around a lot in a derogatory fashion.

Still wanna hear your observational humor bit :p

Looks like Melbourne also is suffering from the CFG Blues. Their primary supporters group is disbanding.

From the article, it appears the club had issues even before CFG took over. Like NYC, it was a second club and an attempt by its league to manufacture a local rivalry. But, according to this article at least, it lacked any true demarcation - based on geography or anything - from the existing club. So it always had an identity issue. But some folks adopted it and loved it, then CFG took over, changed the name, changed the colors, and it felt like a different club.

This part resonates:
"The result is an organisation lacking soul and the dwindling of the club’s active support is a testament to that.
Some may argue that Melbourne’s second club never boasted those qualities, but that would be a disservice to the hard work those first fans put into creating a fantastic community of supporters – regardless of how small - around the club.
It would also be a disservice to the likes of Scott Munn and others at an executive level, who went to great lengths to communicate with supporters, from fan forums to invitations to training to general stakeholder engagement on social media and other platforms.
Some of those people remain involved at the club to this day, but a new structure and oversight have clearly taken the focus away from the fans."

Damn that stings. Also:

"Without the star marquee talent a club of City’s resources should be delivering, or silverware to compensate, there is seemingly little left to cling onto for the club’s ever-decreasing supporters."

It's just depressing. And note that Melbourne at least has won a Cup, though not the league, since CFG took over. We haven't even won one lousy Cup game.

That's really a shame. Feel for those supporters since we're living it at the same time.

CFG is just a sham organization that only cares about MCFC. Lack of integration & identity with the cities they occupy/claim when in effect they're no more than sterilized off-the-shelf franchises that could be plopped in any locale. Their giving-back to the community efforts are forward thinking and probably do serve a good number of youth, but they're tangential to the development of the 1st team efforts.

It's almost as if an individual used to getting their way had a grand vision of sporting dominance with no practical experience to back it up, came up with a business plan and marketing campaign that was well received by those excited to implement it (and benefit by it), until reality struck when because of geographic league & tax rules and regulations, money can't solve every problem and thus interest waned for the dangling franchises that can't even be used to offset FFP...... will be absolutely wonderful for Liverpool to win the EPL this year after CFG has done everything imaginable to buy the title.
