Finally done it seems.

Supposedly the land will be purchased and finalized by the end of this week.

Announcement within the next two weeks.

Bracing myself for "Miami United"

Miami Becks FC. Still hoping for the dream of Miami Vice.

What happens first: Miami plays in its own stadium or we do?

Miami does. (Unless Becks misses his bribe deadline and the city/county reclaim his land and arrest him on tax fraud. :p)

Please let this happen!!

I live 45 min north of Marlins Park. The new MLS stadium will be on the lot right next to it.

Becks and his group are trying to have the area (Little Havana) deemed a "slum" for some tax breaks. We'll see what happens.

To say I'm super pumped about becoming a Founding STH is an understatement.

I'm kinda worried af, but on a rational level it's probably superb news for the league and by extension the sport in this country.

Any problem with him having a stake in Toronto FC and Miami Whatevs, from a regulatory standpoint?

MLS is a single entity. Owners do not own their teams. They own stakes in the league with the right to operate their team. AEG currently operates Houston and LAG. AEG used to also operate Chicago, MetroStars, DC United, and San Jose. There was a big court case Fraser v. MLS, where the players union sued the league for antitrust violations, but a federal judge ruled that the league was a single entity and therefore could not conspire against itself. The Supreme Court denied the appeal.

Marlins supposedly will have naming rights to the stadium and can veto dates that the team can use the soccer stadium. Thats insane.

Marlins have repeatedly said they won't interfere.

Leiwinke joining Miami pretty much confirms its going to happen. For those that don't know, Liewinke led AEG when it owned 2/3 of the league. Brought Beckham and the DP rule to MLS and has transformed TFC.

They said they won't impede a deal especially if Beckham's group has the money. They never said they wouldn't sell naming rights to the stadium or veto calendar dates.

In fact they haven't said anything other than they won't impede the project. Interpret that as you will.

$$$$$$$$$$

Precisely.

Marlins ownership (Jeffrey Loria) are easily a bottom 5 sports franchise in terms of vision, commitment to payroll, analytics and relationship with the fan base.

They traded a first ballot Hall Of Famer for 2 prospects because

A) they didn't have the vision to lock him in well before Free Agency and

B) they didn't want to pay him when he hit free agency

They should be filed under Not To Be Trusted

Thanks for the context. Very interesting. I'm super new to MLS.
