Mix Gone?

Just listened to the ExtraTime Radio Podcast on mlssoccer.com and they brought up potential trade opportunities for Mix. One was to Chicago for Sean Johnson. Sign me up for that trade right now. Makes sense for both teams TBH
To a certain extent yes, but doesn't Sean Johnson struggle playing out of the back?

I definitely understand it would be a big upgrade at the keeper position, but if we are going to make a decent investment in a keeper, I would hope it would be one that is suited to play PV's style.

Isn't he practicing with the team and traveling with them? Sometimes even warming up pre-match. He's not making the 18, but he's around. By now it must be very awkward for everyone.

If say if you can't move him and won't play him, release him and take the cap hit. It's not like $375k is a big deal to pay out for CFG. (Unless he's signed for another year or more!) It lets him land somewhere else (probably outside the US), and makes a clean brake for the team. Who knows, maybe Garber makes up a rule on the spot and whatever salary he gets elsewhere is counts as a reduction of his cap hit, mitigating the loss.
Extra Time made it sound like he had a couple of years left.

I sure hope we have a feeler out to Guzan. The longer he goes without interest, the lower his salary demands will get. Let's straight up swap Guzan and send Mix to Aston Villa, lol.

Having him around the team is fine. I think it's a bigger distraction to have him on the bench is my point.

Releasing Mix hurts our roster flexibility. You need to move the contract.

Interesting question. What would need to happen to make this topic die off, haha? Would it be Mix making the 18, or time on the pitch?

Significant time on the pitch. Not starting, but being the first sub in each match (current Mikey role). And even then, it would still be a discussion of what a waste of cap space for a sub, since we apparently have 1-2 more years left on his contract.

But he does a different job than Mikey. You don't bring a guy in at that stage of the game because of his talent. You bring him in to do a job. In Mikey's case, he helps kill off the game and acts as a nuisance. He has actually carved out a great niche on this team. He's been fantastic in this well-defined role.

Agreed - Mix's strengths are best utilized as a starter to help get the ball up the field. I thought Mix looked fantastic in preseason this year. He was calm on the ball and didn't turn it over. Something clicked once the season started and he lost his cool, and ended up running around the pitch like crazy, chasing the ball, and causing turnovers. He looked frantic, and just didn't look like he did in preseason. I wonder if he just loses his shit under pressure.

I think that is just how we play. Even Pirlo will sometimes press defensively up the field.

That style doesn't seem to work for Mix's strengths.

I don't really buy the whole he doesn't fit Vieira 's style of play arguement. At least with Poku, you can make the argument that he is a better center forward or an attacking #10. We know that Mix is not a holding #6 or an attacking #10. If he can't fit in Vieira's system as a box to box #8, what system does he fit into? The answer could be nothing.

He fits in PV's system - it's just that PV prefers to play Lampard over Mix. If Lampard wasn't here, Mix would be playing as he was prior to Lamps recovery.

I think it's partially this and partially a behind-the-scenes attitude or practice issue.

For system fit, you'd think Mix could handle a poacher role well enough, playing behind the play as the second option, and pressing up the field on defense. Lampard is just a world-class poacher, so Mix isn't needed. I also think he was tried at the deeper midfield roles in our system and didn't impress.

Behind the scenes, Mix has been in both our managers' doghouses. I don't know about everyone else, but Mix seems like a pretty odd fellow to me sometimes through platforms like Twitter. Guessing any specific personality clashes with Vieira or teammates would be pure speculation, but there has to be something going on. If he doesn't respond well to authority, for example, you absolutely can't reward that behavior with playing time, especially when his play has been borderline anyway.

If Lampard got hurt right now, I doubt that Mix would start. Vieira was benching him in favor of Lopez even early on in the season.

I think this is really important because we've been playing well, scoring goals and need to protect leads. Mikey has done well helping us achieve that, and there just isn't a reason to make a sub like Mix, especially getting so many first-half leads.

mix started games 1,2,3,5,6, then lopez started games 7-10. They both started game 11, Mix started 12, lopez 13, and mix 14 and 15.

I would argue that neither deserves to be starting right now. If Iraola is unable to play this weekend, I think his natural replacement is Federico Bravo right now. If Lampard was injured, I would argue that McNamara is our better CAM option. If Pirlo was injured? I don't know. I guess Diskerud.

I think Diskerud's skill set is that of a 90 minute player. But he's stuck behind 3 guys who do a job better than he does. Lopez's skill set is that of a late game player who closes out games. I think he is a miserable possessor of the ball and mediocre passer. For some guys, the game slows down. When Lopez has the ball, the game speeds up. That's not good.

Montreal said they're not interested in Diskerud. Figured it was worth mentioning after his weird tweet last weekend about Montreal.

for his price in a capped league who would be interested? he hasn't shown he is worth 750k cap hit; every team in the mls is better off letting him hamstring our team structure. he has to be sold outside the mls.

I am not saying he isn't quality, but not worth 750k value. At worst he's fairly valued in MLS.

Agreed. No MLS team will take his salary. Need to find an international taker.
