Mix Gone?

for his price in a capped league who would be interested? he hasn't shown he is worth 750k cap hit; every team in the mls is better off letting him hamstring our team structure. he has to be sold outside the mls.

I am not saying he isn't quality, but not worth 750k value. At worst he's fairly valued in MLS.
It would appear that we have the most expensive team in the league. We just added an expensive center back to go with out other expensive CB, our expensive LB, two CDMs, our expensive CM and our expensive ST. We are not acting like anythign is hamstrung.

Also questioning the quality of a guy who scores in MLS and internationally is silly. I think Kreis and Vieira see his potential, but something is hindering him. You don't have long meetings and give multiple chances to a guy that you don't think can contribute. If Vieira can get through to him, we will have a very good player.

well, look at it this way. PV wants to play a certain way, and mix isn't factoring into his plans. So if we can offload 750k salary and buy a 750k player that fits the system we would be better off, no? if no one takes mix off our hands we can't buy that 750k player, are we not being hamstrung? we now have 750k of potential going to waste. In an uncapped league that doesn't matter but it does here.

IF I was another MLS team i wouldn't take mix's 750k salary at face value, I'd make NYCFC eat it. Plus having a starter quality player potentially bringing down moral is an added plus to not taking him.

If things happen in threes, Mix is destined to be the third and final dog to be kicked out of the Cosmos fall-out Chateau Bow Wow.
Unless it's Shelton..... he was easily worse than Poku, Mullins, or Mix in that game...... and he's done nothing since except get a GK red carded in the last minute of a game we were winning.

I agree. Which makes you think that PV has a plan for him - either as the new backup CF or something else.

Very true.

I think he's a better backup CF than he is a winger. He played centrally in college. Playing along the sideline seems to mess him up. He doesn't have the touch to beat people off the dribble. He doesn't cross the ball well. He is tall and fast, let him play centrally when Villa isn't on the filed and use him as an over the top fast break threat.

Totally agree. I think he's a terrible winger. He can't take you 1 v 1 unless he's blowing by you. He has an awful touch. He has no sense on where to put the ball on a pass.

What he can do is win balls in the air, hold up play and crush you on the counter attack. Sounds like a CF to me. But PV has to work with the tools that he has. For whatever his plan is this year, he must think that Shelton provides more value to him than Mullins. Mullins wasn't going to play as a back-up winger or change of pace guy. That's my best guess.

I think we're overcomplicating this. Mullins provided better value. I'm not sure why based on historical performance why you'd take Shelton over Mullins. Think it's that simple. Could've easily been offered and we were given a "thanks but no thanks."

Mullins played one position. Shelton seems to play multiple positions. Mullins wasn't going to ever play that one position here. Shelton thus provides more value (for now).

Mullins played one position lazily. Khiry plays multiple positions...poorly. Wouldn't mind seeing both sent out to pasture, but I'm just cutthroat like that.

I could live with that. Just think Khiry offers more versatility today. He can cover all 3 forward positions - albeit not so great.

To be fair, we don't know what he offers playing his natural position. I wonder how his life would be different if he wasn't injured to start last year and was partnered with Villa up top instead of Nemec.

he would never be partnered with villa as long as nemac was in the picture, kreis wanted the target forward in nemac to collect balls and distribute to the clinical finisher in villa. Once nemac left khiry was never deployed like that.

Shelton was on the US U23 team, invited to Camp Cupcake. He is big, athletic, and fast. Shelton has potential. Mullins is WYSIWYG and can only play on a team with two strikers.

Shelton reminds me a little of Zardes. I actually think he can improve in areas that he needs.

Going into this year, when everyone was jumping off the boat, I was in the Shelton becomes Zardes camp. Same physical attributes. Worse decision making, a disturbingly worse first touch and poor crossing skills.

The only thing holding Zardes back from playing Premier League football is his first touch. Hasn't improved in 2 years there.

Agreed. No MLS team will take his salary. Need to find an international taker.

Yep. International has always made more sense for this reason. I was hopeful that an MLS team would just take him (salary and all) with nothing in return - maybe a team that has a DP slot, so their salary cap hit is less. But, if we have to move him to MLS, I think we will probably have to supplement the salary.

He should be relatively attractive in Europe. He holds a European passport (not EU, but I think Norway gets work privileges), so there are no issues with permitting. He is a good technical player. Any team in the Championship or France or the Netherlands should be happy to take him with that salary.

Regardless, I would love to see him go somewhere that gives him a regular starting job. He's a good player and a good guy and deserves regular time on the pitch.
