Mix Gone?

36 pages and Mix is still on the team

From a sporting director perspective: Can we transfer Mix to Man City to get his full salary off our books and then they can take care of his transfer to another European league?

Obviously, this move doesn't to anything now since we can't bring a player in, unless they're a free agent.

I'm sure there are parts of Mix's contract that deal with this, whether no-trade clause (Mix has right of refusal) or going to ManCity (with zero chance of playing) prior to loan/sale. And don't forget, ManCity still has to fit the transfer in under their FFP numbers, and currently they're hemorrhaging money with their own buys - I doubt they want to absorb a hit that MLS would mandate without knowing they could recoup it.

I think this is right. I don't know of any MLS rule obstacle to this, but it seems unlikely Mix or MCFC would want it. I would just add that while his salary is a big problem for us, in the scheme of MCFC's FFP issues his salary is a dew drop. But as you noted they're in a situation where every little bit is a big difference.

There are teams where we don't match up well. Difficult to change that with our roster. That being said, we impose our will on other teams. That's a function of the league and lack of depth on rosters.

This. The one thing I would like to see NYCFC do is consistently find a good strategy to counteract a team with a high press and a good, ball control midfield (i.e. SKC and RBNY). They have found a winning formula against more defensive teams who let them have the ball. Now go out and beat that press.

Also, has to be noted that it was 1000 degrees in both that SKC and RBNY game. Won't be that way in October, will more like those "European nights" that our geriatric DPs are used to.

And to keep this on point, Mix isn't that winning formula to beat those high press teams.

You used to be a terrific poster. Now you let your Frank bias ruin your posts.

I watched the Colorado game last night. He controlled that game on both sides of the ball. There wasn't a player on the field that could sniff his jock strap. His second goal was world class. Brilliant first touch and then curls a ball in the goal past Howard. His other goals aren't luck as you say. You need to be in the right place at the right time. It's not a coincidence that he puts those balls in the back of the net. How many times do we see McNamara just miss a goal because he wasn't in the right position? He slides in towards goal too late. Happened twice against Colorado.

Are there teams that give him trouble? Sure. Same could be said for Giovinco who most on here agree is the single most talented player in the league right now. RJ Allen ate his lunch on two occasions already.
Completely agree with you on Lampard always being in the right place at the right time has little to do with luck. It's more about his soccer IQ and his positioning.

Have to disagree with your comment about McNamara though. TMac has been lauded by Vieira on more than one occasion for being extremely intelligent with his runs and positioning. He is always running to the right place both offensively and defensively. Getting to a spot a split second early or late doesn't necessarily mean you weren't in the right spot. Case in point, TMac 's second half screamer off the crossbar against Red Bulls. Lamps drifted a little too deep into the 6 yard box a hair too soon and the rebound bounced off the top of his head. Doesn't mean he wasn't in the right position. You mention two times against Colorado where you feel like Mac slid in towards goal too late. How about the dozens of times this year where he put himself in a good spot to score but didn't get the ball because someone else didn't (or couldn't) make the right pass, or took a selfish shot instead of laying it off? Like I said, I agree with your point about Lamps but I think your point about McNamara being someone who's positioning is bad is way off base.

We don't have to worry about FFP mate. It has failed to stop us, and will eventually be binned because the only reason it was ever invented was to stop us and keep the so called elite European teams at the top.

I think the SKC loss is squarely on lack of squad rotation and heat. Our guys were completely gassed. That REALLY concerns me come playoff time when you play two games in 4 or 5 days. I wasn't upset at the SKC loss.

I can't figure out why we lose to NJRB. Maybe they just have our number. I don't know.

It will be shorter rest, but also cooler temperatures (unless we play Orlando). Also, PV has said he will now rotate the squad more then in the past. Hopefully, that readies us for the short turnaround come playoff time.

How does that help us vs. NYCFC transferring Mix to another league?

Getting the first round bye and home field to minimize travel would help considerably.

I think it was a situation like:

Ferran Soriano: "Patrick, did you play the same squad 5 games in a row on short rest and sauna-like conditions?"

Patrick Vieira: "yes."

FS: "WTF?!? I can't blame you for losing to SKC because you've never experienced playing in heat like that, but you did it again against that little whiny troll's team."

PV: "I thought SKC was unlucky."

FS: "unlucky... They were exhausted. How many players are on the squad?"

PV: "I like to use 12 and will send in another 2 if I have to."

FS: "27. You had 27 players at your disposal. Actually 26 since Brandt is always injured. Now you have 26, er 25, after the window. Use them all. That's not a request."

PV: "but I only like 12?"

FS: "all of them. Stop moving RJ to the left when Martinez is available. The kid is good. Sometimes I don't understand you - you French think you know everything because you have so many philosophers and culinary schools, and don't misunderstand me, I love escargot, but use your entire squad."

PV: "ok, but do I have to use Mix?"

FS: [crickets....]

Still afraid that we will sorely miss Poku in a pinch sometime between now and the MLS Cup.

Mendoza and Taylor seem to be useless out wide.

I think Poku's true value would come as a caddy for Fat Frank, or functioning as a central (mainly) attacking player. His lack of stamina/industry (whichever side of the fence you fall on) and defensive awareness makes him a lot less useful on the wing.

Taylor maybe...Mendoza hasn't really shown what he's capable of though. I think he's got a lot more to show us. He has crazy wheels. The guy can fly around the field.
