Mls All-star Game Thread

Thoughts on future MLS ASG sites, all featuring new MLS stadiums. Since Garber really wants a new stadium to host the game in its initial years, and with a bunch of new stadiums coming up, I think it will play out like this...
2016: San Jose (confirmed)
2017: Orlando (hasn't hosted since '98, pending Orlando moves in new stadium this year)
2018: LAFC (hasn't hosted since '03 at LA Galaxy)
2019: Atlanta (never hosted in state)
2020: NYCFC (last in NY metro was '11 at Red Bull, if you care to count that)
2021: Miami (never in Miami, Orlando '98 was last in FL)
2022: DC (hasn't hosted since '04 at RFK)

I love my SPURS, but is that the best MLS could get?

I wonder why Colorado couldn't flex their muscles to lure Arsenal (owned by Stan Kroenke who is the largest shareholder)?
They seem to pick European sides with big name Americans in their squads.
2013: Roma - Michael Bradley
2014: Bayern - Julian Green
2015: Spurs - DeAndre Yedlin

I didn't even realize this little fact.

We've kind of run out of team for next year then unless MLS plays Union Berlin and the Legend of Bobby Wood makes an appearance in the US. Or maybe MLS plays Stanford and we see Jordan Morris.

Everton and Tim Howard?

EAST team would be maaaad:

----------------------------------Hamid
--------------------Boswell-----------------Ciman
Iraola----------------------------Pirlo-----------------------Angelino
-------------------Lampard---------------Bradley
------------------------------------Kaka
----------------------Giovinco
--------------------------------------------Villa

SUBS: Saunders, Tierney, Nguyen, Trapp, SWP, Drogba, Kamara

So NYCFC vs. West. Or how about NYC vs. MLS.

Tbh I'd rather we went back to East vs West
It would be interesting, for the very fact that more MLS players would get bonuses for great league performance. But the international teams are fun to watch too. Just as long as MLS isn't getting smoked like it did against ManU.

I think MLS likes the All-Stars vs. the European powers because its creates more international buzz

And it helps MLS pitch itself to those in this country that think they don't like MLS and only watch European leagues.

Don Garber in the past has said that they don't mind people becoming Euro-fans only as long as they're soccer fans because he believes, at some point, they'll win those people over to MLS, too.

"The European powers"

Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
They're not in the same class as Barca or Bayern but they're in the top quarter of European teams, I'd say.

Especially with the new TV contract and stadium coming.

This is will be the last time it's MLS vs a European team. There has been a lot of talk of moving back to East vs West and it's justified because there are a lot more stars now then in the past couple of years.

Established superpowers:
Real Madrid
Barcelona
Bayern Munich
Manchester United

Historic superpowers:
Liverpool
Juventus
AC Milan
Ajax

Modern superpowers:
Manchester City
Chelsea
Paris Saint Germain

After that there are teams like Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan before you get to Spurs.

I didn't say superpowers so not sure why you're bothering to list them.

Also, Manchester City....a superpower lol

Keep dreaming, kid.

I was just naming teams that would have been bigger draws than Spurs, that's all.

MCFC:
5th most valuable club in world football
Fastest expanding fanbase in world football
Fastest growing revenues in world football
Richest owner in world football
Owns 2 other football clubs

I think "modern superpower" is perfectly apt.

I think you're confusing pretty new buildings with pretty new trophies.

Real superpowers aren't excited by getting out of the group stage of CL.
