MLS and Apple Broadcasting Deal

The issue for me when looking for the replay is that it is right next to a series of highlights of goals in our games. So, I can see if we have scored and if so, how much.

right. i think we all agree having the highlights at the top and the replay at the very bottom is a problem.

the issue i'm referring to is when the game is still on and LIVE. when i select 'watch from start" it sends me to the live feed anyway and i end up seeing the score at whatever minute the game is currently at. just curious if others are experiencing this too.

Yup, ive had that happen too but only on my non-Apple device for sure. On my Apple devices i dont remember if that’s happened

I agree having the highlight tiles prominent and above the past game tiles there is very bad design. But am I unusual in having mastered the art of being able not to focus on things in these situations so I can click or read what I want and skip the rest? Sure, if I'm not expecting something I'll just read it, and then get annoyed at the spoiling, but when I know to expect stuff like this, and when I know how the screen is organized, it's not hard to avoid seeing the details of what I don't want to see. It never occurred to me that not everyone does this. The Past Matches row is way down near the bottom of the NYCFC team page, so I just glaze over until I scroll way down, and then it's safe.

ETA: This also would not help the issue M moogoo is asking about.

knowing the live bug exists (at least for me) i use this method by blocking my view of the top part of the screen. if i see the game is live, then i drag the thing back to the start. i just don't think i should need to do this. probably is a non-apple device problem, but shit that sucks.

with messi drawing in tens of millions of more viewers, apple needs to fix their shit. streams stutter too much, these little live bugs, page layout... etc. it needs to be better and it needs to happen asap. they can't frustrate people enough that they don't want to come back next year to watch messi.

I Cant See Dont Look GIF by ABC Network

Enjoyed Apple's graphic labeling Nick Cushing as "New York" coach tonight. So sloppy.

well the way he picked our team and made subs, he was acting like he was helping RB so it was accurate in a way lol...

Apple is awful. YES was better in every way aside from distribution -- and at least with YES our games were usually on TV.

For the 95th time, the games are not produced by Apple. They are produced by MLS. If you don't like the graphics or announcers or camera work (and how could you?), the blame lies with the league. If you don't like the software or your device, that's Apple.

I understand that. You're right, I should be more precise on that point. MLS is doing a terrible job with the broadcasts.

Funny how MLS can have sideline reporters, interviews, and actual pregame & postgame shows on Inter Miami games for Apple but not for any other MLS games. Kind of a bad look, if we're being honest. This is the kind of content they should have before & after every game.

A lot of this is explained in part by there being only one game last night.
They routinely have pregame and postgame shows but the attention is divided among several games. The sideline reporters is different, but also made possible by just bringing more people to the only game that was on without needing to hire more talent.

OTOH, it's likely not an accident that Miami played in the only game that had its own day in the Round of 16. I have no idea if that was predetermined by the bracket or manipulated, though I can have suspicions.

They've been doing single-game pregames and postgames with their top broadcast crew, sideline reporters, interviews etc around every Miami game since Messi arrived. This is their coverage plan for all Miami games. It should be their coverage plan for every game in the league.

As a data nerd, one of my preferred news sources is a daily data based newsletter - chartr - highly recommend it. Today's lead story is about that guy in Miami.

Here's the text with that. But I also really do encourage any data lovers to sign up. Great service.

The GOAT

The Messi effect is already in full swing less than 2 months after he officially signed for Inter Miami, with daily signups for Apple’s MLS Season Passshooting up on the days when the Argentinian maestro turned out for his team.

According to data from subscription analytics specialists Antenna, cited by the WSJ, over 110,000 US fans signed up for Apple’s exclusive MLS coverage on July 21st ahead of Messi’s dramatic Miami debut, where he came off the bench to score a 94th-minute winner.

Miami’s heat

Messi has got off to a flying start for Inter Miami with 11 goals and 8 assistsover 11 appearances so far, but he’s also been working wonders off the pitch. Since his arrival, Messi's pink jersey has been the best-selling shirt across all sports on Fanatics, resale prices of Miami tickets have soared more than 1000%, and Google search interest in the club has regularly hit new highs.

Messi’s also been instrumental in launching the club’s social media presence into the stratosphere too, helping Miami’s Instagram account become the most-followed franchise across the MLS, NFL, NHL, and MLB, according to the Washington Post. When the news broke that Messi would be joining Inter in June, the club’s follower count soared by almost 7.5 million, and it’s kept climbing since, counting more than 13.8 million new Insta fans since the start of the year.
