MLS - August 30 - D.C. (YS)

when will this team learn how to play against a low block? it's probably the hardest thing to do, especially at YS with even less space, but times like this, we need 1v1 dribblers and players willing to shoot from distance... especially on BARAZZA. i mean come on. that guy is a rebound machine and we don't take advantage of it at all.

very disappointing to lost at home to the worst team in the league.

This roster is still seriously flawed in the attack. The fact that Maxi is still starting, and Pascal is dragging his feet until the 78' and 83' to sub on Ojeda and Fernandez in a match begging for an impact attacker to come on tells you all you need to know.
And why did Fernandez take that last penalty?

Surprised I hadn’t heard about this. How were they?
Very solid for a pair of guys in their 80s. Daltrey shows it more, as age takes its toll on tenors and rock vocals of his "belt it out" style are unforgiving. His voice broke on the a cappella coda to Reign O'er Me and he smiled ruefully. Stopped. Said I'm going to do that again and after a swig of water nailed it, mostly. Townsend's vocals are more reserved so he doesn't show his age as much when he sings. His guitar play has lost nothing, but his stage movements are not as manic. Similarly, Daltrey's microphone swinging is bit subdued though he still does it. The backing band killed and the sound mix was great.

I'm a fan in the loose definition. They were never a favorite of mine and I never saw them live before. I always favored bands who started roughly1975-85 over the original classic rock cohort. But I'm very glad I saw this.

Before the first sub in the 77', Pascal switched the formation from this:

--Hannes--Martinez--Nico--
-----Perera--Maxi---------
------O'Neil-----------

to this in the 70'

Perera--Martinez--Hannes
--------Nico--Maxi-------
----------O'Neil------------

Then Ojeda came on for Wolf

Then Fernandez came on for O'Toole and Ojeda went to the LW and Fernandez to the LW, Perera dropped to the midfield

It's been said we need players who can dribble through space and make line breaking passes when playing against a low block. That's Keaton Parks.

I’m beginning to feel like maybe the rest of the world has solved Pep ball and the CFG way. Over at Man city Reddit they’re complaining about the exact same thing after they lost to Brighton today.
The other exact same city practice that’s mirroring our issues is that city seem to be waiting to get rid of Ederson before they sign Donnarumma. Same way we discard before we draw.

This, all day. Why we weren't blasting away from distance is beyond me. We kept dribbling right into the crunch in the box.

A few complaints about the refereeing last night. It wasn’t Pierre-Luc level bad but still…

When Moralez was fouled by Benteke, we wanted to play advantage but the referee called the foul. We had possession but gave the ball to D.C. to who proceeded to keep it.

So much time writing all the yellow cards in his book.

Looks like he let a lot go, but most of the 50/50 challenges were called for D.C.

And why did Fernandez take that last penalty?

The last corner that he line drived to the DC defender at the near post while our entire team was in the box? Who knows at this point I think he's looking for new ways to demonstrate how clueless he is.

For someone who usually provides a decent service, the moment was too much for him. But maxi has done similar things so...

I don’t think it was about the pressure of the moment as much as his ongoing lack of situational awareness. Any coach will tell a player to loft that ball into the box and see what develops. But the execution is beyond @Gotham Gator’s original question of why Fernandez was the one who ran over to take it. Nico and Maxi, who had been taking corners all night and have far more experience, were still on the pitch. On top of that, Fernandez was the tallest non-defender on the field at the time, so why was he the one taking the corner?

As I said, he usually provides good service so they probably trusted him to execute. He did not.
