MLS - March 1 - LAFC (Away)

I'm ready to move on from Wolf. He never doesn't anything where I can go: he works hard, he scores, he crosses well, he can shoot from distance. He kills attacks, he can't beat the defender 1 on 1, is he a crossing threat? He gets muscled off the ball everytime. There's players a lot more efficient in MLS who get payed a lot less that CFG wouldn't look at because they don't come from Europe.
The issue with Wolf is that he's not a good enough dribbler to cut inside and shoot with his left foot. LAFC were successful in forcing him outside and that led to him hoofing in right-footed crosses that just weren't good enough.

On Saturday, Wolf was very good and combining in tight areas on the right side. I'd rather see him work at the 10 and let someone else start at wing on that side.

The thing I worry about with wolf as the 10 is his ball retention. If he loses the ball as much as he does on the wing, we are screwed defending counter attacks from a dangerous area.

I'm willing to try it though. If he can play better there then great

Finally got to watch the game. The attack was anemic. They really need to work on some sort of cycling and drilling about what to do in the final 3rd. But on defense we play like a whole new team compared to last year. I think the system is working and will work. I am on the Jansen hype train. I think the players unfortunately need more time and we need a few improved pieces. (Should have happened in Pre-season) We NEED a #10 that can dictate a game for 90 minutes. Once Maxi came off it was like the front 4 had never played a game together in their lives. It’s unfortunate to give up the goal right at the end of the game. We really did seem to shut down a much better tooled team than our own on the road and I give a lot of credit to the new boss for making that happen. I’m really intrigued to see what our team can do at home.

I've been on the we need a DP 10 train for a while but re-watching the LA game actually made me a bit worried. Maxi played incredibly well, he looked like prime Maxi and the offense was still entirely toothless. So say we do get a quality 10 and they take the Maxi min, what really changes? We need a high-quality 10 for sure but I'm worried it won't move the needle as much as we all hope unless our wingers figure out how to become scoring threats. Our wingers stink. Every team just parks an outside back on them 1:1. The CBs are then free to focus entirely on Martinez, Maxi, and the occasional midfield runner.

I'm looking forward to getting malachi back in the mix. that kid and martinez together will cause some havoc, i think. with those two working the left side, perhaps wolf will have more space to do something. but yeah, a top notch 10 is the highest of priorities. as much as i'd want an impactful winger too, i don't think they will sign any since we have ojeda and fernandez. they're probably waiting to see if they can be developed.

I'm glad Crooks and (especially) Jansen are on this. Excluding set pieces and the Alba gift we have had 7 shots from inside the 18 yard box through 2 games, and 5 of those were taken from barely inside the very edge. We need more runners going to goal.

Also hints that Bakrar should have spent more time in a striker position against LA even though he nominally was a winger.
