MLS - May 28 - Houston (YS)

That’s a name from the past.

He went from MLS to the Dutch second division to USL. Damn remember when he was the next coming when he was in the Arsenal academy? How he has faded, impressive.
Not only the academy. He debuted with the first team at 16, which was very exciting. He was the second coming, and then he wasn't.

I don't think there's a Gooner who didn't believe he was going to be something special.

Ok, I have to ask. Do you just go with the first name that pops in your head as you’re typing the post? Do you choose the night before? Do you keep track to avoid repeats? So many questions.
LOL.

I went back today and tracked them all because I was reaching the point where I was confident I was going to accidentally repeat.

When a family member is around I ask them to choose a number between 1-6 and another 1-20 and use those to chose page and player on the former players forum pages.

When it is just me I will sometimes pick out of my mind. How could I not select the player you build a team around for the first match of the year? And sometimes I will scan the former players pages to see what name pops for me.

Hopefully it doesn't lose too much of its mystique.

I was rooting so hard for Zelalem to make a comeback, even just to the point where he could have had some solid years in MLS. His whole downfall from Arsenal is just heartbreaking. Tore his ACL with Arsenal and ended up needing a second surgery, and was out for over 400 days. While he was out, his sister died in a car accident. The way he talks about how hard it was to focus after that is just heartbreaking. Then, a second knee injury took him out for another year just before he joined NYCFC. I cannot imagine what it's like to go from the hype he had at Arsenal to his career ending up the way it did, just horrible.

I just have my SS ticket, I guess they don't offer upgrades for those, if anyone has a ticket out of the rain I'm interested! It's just me going tonight.

It really is. He was super close with his sister. It hit him hard. And he lost his mother at a young age before emigrating, too. Then you add in the injuries and it's almost too much to believe. He's been through a lot.

He's giving a decent enough account of himself at New Mexico United, though. (Chris Gloster is there too, by the way.) And he's still just 28, so he might find his way back to MLS if his mobility hasn't been too badly compromised.

He really was something as a kid, though. Arsene was genuinely high on him, rated him as maybe the best prospect he'd seen up to that point.
