MLS - May 4 - Cincinnati (CF)

That was a good match! A good turnout for a rainy day too. I really enjoyed the way we played today.
Hopefully once new guy can start playing we will see a whole new level of creative play in the midfield which we really need to link to Alonso and bakrar and wolf.

We are still missing the ability to just do what we need to in the final third. It's the final third paranoia again

We can be so good when we get on the front foot and come with energy, intelligence and drive. I had company today so I couldn't really lock in until the second half, but I kept glancing over during the first 30 minutes thinking, "Hey now, what is this." We were all over them.

Then Keaton went down, and it was "uh-oh" again. But we were so brave in the second half. Everyone played their asses off.

Kudos to our gaffer, by the way. Brilliant setup. Pascal is a real one, no doubt about it.

Another crappy weather home game yayyyy
Thankfully wasn't as bad as predicted (at least from my nicely covered seats, that is). Almost didn't go but glad I did. Woulda been 4-0 if Martinez didn't keep hitting the wood or missing a completely open net, but hey, the team played well. Only thing I'd say is that Maxi needs to take young Shore aside and tell him it's OK to shoot. Good game, was entertained, got a nice pin.

hope parks is ok and comes back soon. perea going out again so soon is worrying too. cavallo looked great when he came on and haak is really doing well at the CB and filled in well in the midfield despite not having the ball control benefits that parks gives us.

martinez was having an off day or it would have easily been 3-0. hopefully it's his only off game this season.

overall not a bad game. we looked decent all things considering. when we moved the ball around quickly, we looked super dangerous. when we slowed things down and let them get set up, we just didn't have any ideas to break things down. fernandez needs to work on going to the right and putting in a decent cross. that's all he needs to do. if he adds that to his game, he can be more dangerous.

we are definitely missing in behind threats in addition to martinez and 1v1 dribbling threats. we simply don't have any.

Really happy with the game and the energy of the team.

I do have to say that I flinch every time Martins gets passed the ball. I still think he has a high motor but his decisions and follow through are still lacking. I guess it’s good he didn’t yell at anyone on our own team.

Martins had a game saving end to end chase down tackle late in the game. A few in the chat noted it was an example of his value. While I agree his speed is his best asset and it allows us to play a high line I don't think it's enough to justify all his weaknesses and he's certainly not good enough to be a DP. He never wins balls in the air, his distribution is questionable, he gets bullied by physical strikers and he scores own goals at an alarming rate.

Wasn't able to watch but judging by the highlights we looked pretty lively.

Beating Cincinnati is a hell of a win for this group. They are really good.

My biggest takeaway is that Pascal is a phenomenal coach, and we are fortunate to have him. The team came out in a new 3 atb formation, every player knew their role, was sharp and ready to go from the opening whistle. Completely dominated the first 20 min. Had a bit of a drop off when Keaton went off injured again, but the team didn't bunker, kept attacking, and earned the win.

Getting that result with a Keaton injury and our half-baked roster against a team of Cincinnati's quality was very impressive.

I think I made this comment on Opening Day, but the team looks more mature under Pascal. The standards are higher and the team looks like it has a greater understanding of what everyone is supposed to be doing.

I've been very impressed with Pascal so far.
