MLS - September 24 - Miami (CF)

After reflection, I think I have come to understand why Wednesday night was so deflating.

This was a big event that a lot of us were looking forward to. Then, it turned out that it was just Inter Miami throwing a gigantic party in our own house. And their party was a lot bigger and better than any party we’ve thrown there in a long time.

That really sucks.

As we were living I told my friend "and the thing is they're all cheering for miami... as soon as messi leaves they won't care anymore"
Like, i'm fine if people want to cheer on messi as an opposition player - but then to just cheer on the game entirely for miami was what was so deflating about it.

What really got me was how much it made me feel like I was supporting the Washington Generals against the Globe Trotters. The atmosphere just felt fake. People pulling out there phones to record anytime Messi had the ball. Hell the mother and father sitting next to me were on their phones watching Tiktoks the whole game cause they were only there for their three kids who wanted to see Messi. C’mon you paid probably 2ish grand to be here and see the greatest player in the world, (maybe in the history of the game) and you couldn’t take any interest in that to look up from your algorithm.

Miami got 22 fouls called for them. We only got 9. Their softness was called all night by the referee and it was disturbing. They always get these calls. Only once did the referee call a handball because de Paul actually was called for a dive. They were diving all night and all the referees for all their games let it fly.

Every 50-50 call went their way.

Called it a bull shit call during the chat. Perea's hand came nowhere near his face.
They really need to do something about stuff like that. It's an embarrassment to the game!

Only thing they can do that would actually stop players (maybe) is treating a disciplinary issue as a yellow card and after X number of them, you get suspended for a number of games. Fines are meaningless for players like DePaul.

I would be ok with players getting suspended for too many disciplinary issues. maybe a 2 game suspension would be enough. but players have known they get yellow cards for taking off their jersey or kicking the ball away for restarts and they still do that. so who knows.

At the very least, they should also recind Perea's yellow so it doesn't count towards accumulation, but I have not seen any announcements indicating that happened.

I was also shocked Alba didn't get anything more for spending two minutes berating the line judge and then bumping him. Any non-Messi associated player in the league does that and they possibly get a red and certainly get post-game disciplinary action.

Rb have been officially eliminated from playoffs bc of Chicago win.
