If you make a selection in Stage 1, you automatically pass in Stage 2. So everyone that didn't make a selection in Stage 1 gets a selection in Stage 2.
I totally get what you're saying. It still doesn't change my point, though (I don't think?).
1. If signing that many is what you need to do to effectively spend all you have, then that's what you do. I am making the argument that if you're doing what you're saying, you're doing it wrong and should be re-thinking the specific contracts offered with a better eye towards the construction of the entire roster.
2. You can use the money on acquisition, can't you? So your hypos are not exactly the only ways to spend all of it.

MLS really should get rid of these mini drafts considering how they're basically never used anymore. What's the point, at this stage? They're just wasting everyone's time and making it harder for MLS players to sign new contracts with new teams.
I'm assuming they are tied into the collective bargaining agreement and can't be changed until the next round of negotiations.
Yeah, I'm almost 100% sure you're right -- it has to do with the lack of meaningful free agency in the league. Needless to say, these mechanics simply aren't being used anymore, so it's time they scrapped them.

Wow, I'd go as far to say he was a worse DP signing then Pirlo. Sure pirlo got paid more but they both get tagged at 450k cap space after that its the sheiks money not really hurting the team. The dude was 27 and only played 13/60 games? bahahaha terrible assignment for a DP spot. At least pirlo has an excuse that hes old AF, whats this guys excuse? He just sucked and wasted the designation. NYC > NJ, we win again.
