To avoid a slate of game with depleted teams at the start of the Gold Cup, the league decided to provide a slate of games tonight and tomorrow...

... also with depleted teams.

There are 5 games on store tonight - sadly none are that interesting. Still, it is good to see the league put a bunch of games on a major holiday. Question - should the league try to stake a claim to a major holiday the way the NFL has with Thanksgiving or the EPL has with Boxing Day?

Better games Thursday night, with the two teams we are chasing in the Eastern Conference playing tough games. Toronto is at Orlando, and Chicago is hosting Portland. Also, the Red Fools try to get back to .500 in a trip to New England.

Happy 4th!

Arena once posited that the league would benefit by having an equivalent Boxing Day type setup around a holiday - can't remember if it was July 4th, or more likely Labor Day/Memorial Day. His theory was that you play two matches in quick succession against "local" teams with one home/away each. Could probably work with both bookend holidays to avoid games over a two-week international break. We'd have limited travel with RB, Philly, NE, DC, Toronto, Montreal, and even Columbus. Hell, let every team use charters (doesn't count against their seasonal allotment) on these dates to make it as easy/non-disruptive as possible.
