NWSL

maybe it will be a gotham fc vs nycfc womens team?

as mentioned, i doubt there is enough fanbase to have two teams in NY. The logical thing would be to bring gotham to etihad park but that's if they want to since that'd be alienating their NJ fanbase. Just found it strange that NYCFC would send out an email too if they had nothing to do with it other than being a NY soccer team. would be curious of NJ sent out an email to their fans too?

i could of sworn i read Sims allude to this somewhere in one of the Q&A's a couple of years ago.

Yeah I remember him talking about "adding" a women's team, but where would that women's team play? There's no other women's league other than the NWSL. Kind of feels like Gotham FC will be a tenant in the new stadium, which you imagine they would welcome over playing in NJ. Have to imagine they'd improve their attendance if they made that move.

there is the Gainbridge Super League under the USL umbrella too with brooklyn fc being the local team.

I didn't even know that league existed. I suppose NYCFC could put a team in that league but feels like Gotham moving over seems like the most likely and financially profitable decision.

From last year:
I found the clip in Blue Balls where Trey Fillmore was discussing CFG and the women’s game and Brad Sims discussing Gotham. Trey does a lot of reading between the lines but I tend to agree with his take that Brad is being very explicit in what he’s highlighting and what he’s not highlighting.

It should start right where he discusses the women’s game. But if not it starts at 55:29.

Edit: after a brief glance through announcement articles, there is not any information about how long Gotham’s contract with Red Bull and RBA now SIS will continue. Originally it said they would be playing all their home games for 2020 in RBA. But obviously they have extended that contract since they are still there in 2025.

The Gotham FC cap table seems odd even if it’s set up as a General Partnership. Carolyn Tisch Blodgett is the club governor but a minority owner and another minority Ed Nalbandian is the managing owner. Buying controlling interest in the team might not be worth it for CFG. I’m not sure even if the Murphys have controlling interest to sell it to CFG. I feel CFG buys 20% and then undercuts whatever Harrison stadium will be called in 2030.

The next big purchase for the team will be a new training facility closer to the stadium. I don’t see Orangeburg bending over backward to buy back the training facility so the team can make a profit.
