From what I've heard, it was actually very well planned and organized, but just had terrible timing.
same coaches have told me that the mid range talent that could play at an NYCFC / RedBull academy are opting back out for the premier club teams locally. A TayVon Gray will stick with NYCFC, but a Will Sands will not. That kind of thing.
This has been exasperated by the location of our Academy which is a whole other shitshow.
Playing at St. John's? Yeah, I'm sure that most of our top talent is long car ride from Queens.
They need a residency program like Philadelphia has. Philly is probably the second best Academy in MLS. I don’t think that’s by accident.
Getting to and from St. Johns 4 nights a week during the 2-way rush hour period is pretty beat.
EVERY MLS team needs a residency program and no local territorial rights. And US Soccer should open them up in non-MLS cities.
To me, that would be the #1 simplest way to dramatically improve the US player pool.
woild be very expensive. But no reason the USSF can’t open IMG or Academies in cities that don’t have MLS. San Diego. Vegas. North Florida. You get the idea.
is that new? i recall the academy kids in the union academy kids dont live there. they have sponsor families that offer them a place to live nearby, and some still travel to and from home every day. at least from what i remember watching a documentary about it years ago.
great question. I don’t know. But I think they all go to school there. They have a modified school day from what I remember.
it’s also a lot easier to get to Chester from Philly, South Jersey and most Phill Suburbs than to get to St John’s.
but where would you have it made here in the area? if you do it outside the city the city kids probably have hard time getting there as not everyone has a car here in the city. Same is probably true if its vice versa. If anything they can do shuttle vans, though not sure if thats feasible.

you gonna have to be more specific, i mean St Johns is in queens too.
Near Citi field. Somewhere off the 7 train and commutable from westchester and Fairfield.

nah, i think with villa being "cancelled" from nycfc that does not happen. also i think their academy beat our U17's and were kinda calling it derby etc.
