This Saturday will see New York City FC will take on the New York Red Bulls in the first ever New York Academy Derby presented by BODYARMOR and adidas. The meeting will see both clubs U-15’s and U-17’s face each other, while a trophy will be presented to the winner

This Saturday will see New York City FC will take on the New York Red Bulls in the first ever New York Academy Derby presented by BODYARMOR and adidas.

The meeting will see both clubs U-15’s and U-17’s face each other, while a trophy will be presented to the winner of the U-17’s match.

The event will take place on May 15 at Red Bulls Training Facility, but no outside visitors will be able to attend the event due to health and safety protocols.

There will be a livestream available, with the U-15’s kicking off at 2 PM ET and the U-17’s match starting at 4 PM ET.

We are 100% one of the MLS2 teams.

Why only 14?

There are some teams like Red Bulls that have invested significantly in their USL clubs. I think its safe to say that the USL Championship will be a higher quality competition at least initially. League is not mandating participation to not penalized those clubs. Everyone else probably just being cheap.

Thats probably why they are doing this league, technically they going against other kids not pros. Although USL Championship seems to have some type of contract that maintains eligibility for the players. I think I recall reading this during MLS Draft time. So maybe they can do that as well for MLS 2 league. They can go against pro's but i think their team cannot pay any player on the squad, IIRC that was the rule.

Id watch if nycfc has a team in this league.

PRoblem is that if this doesn't work. now you're stuck with a bunch of castoffs and would be harder to make the money back.

But I guess it's better than the alternative hah

yes, you cant just pay for a bunch of players ( even on the cheap). you need right amount of international spots, you have to have right GAM/ TAM amount if its players from other team. Or wait until they are released. even if its players on another league, someone else may have their discovery right so you have to pay for that. If its a US national team player you have the priority list as well.
