NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

Matt Doyle says the NYCFC adademy is better than RB, especially at lower levels.

But take this with a grain of salt, because I have it on good authority that Doyle is biased against NYCFC, so he's probably just sticking it to RB fans.
Or something.

i dont think you needed the extra assurance on that one. though i think he shits on all but dislikes us more

Didn't our U-17 team beat their U-17 team 4-0 at a recent tournament?

The Red Bulls do have a terrific history with their academy - probably the best in the league.

All kinds of players who have gone to Europe and/or played for the USMNT spent time there: Miazga, Adams, Weah, Howard; they also drafted Bradley and Altidore as teenagers and developed them at the senior team.

Still, our arrival on the scene created competition, and right now our academy teams are outpacing them. The question is whether that turns into more success developing quality senior players. Time will tell.

Howard was not from their academy. He played for the NJ Imperials of the USISL while in HS. Tim Mulqueen was the coach and also the Metrostars GK coach, so they had an inside route to get him.

Interesting. His Transfermrkt profile lists him as having been in the academy, but 1998 may well be before the academy existed.

I still believe (and I think you would agree) that their academy has turned out a tremendous amount of talent that has both benefited the Red Bulls on the field and in transfer money. I don't think another team has been so prolific in that regard, at least in the last 5-10 years. I think we can get there too.

No doubt RB has been at the top. They’re joined by Dallas and KC, with both having very good academies.

So we are apparently LOADED in the academy.... zero attacking talents on the HG radar?

Well, aside from Gio Reyna...

We don't have many known forwards. We have a lot of good midfielders like Nico Benalcazar, Veljko Petkovic, and Jonathan Jimenez.

It finally happened -- the first kid who Fred Jr. played with just moved up to the NYCFC U14 team.

When I told my son he replied, "well, duh, dad -- he's a soccer god!"
How do they find their recruits? Do they have scouts? Do the youth team coaches make referrals?
