NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

MLS preparing to launch a U19 league starting this upcoming season.

We may never see an NYCFC2 if that is the case.

Short term - great for us.

Long term - probably not.
So players either get tapped-up to the 1st team at 19, or the club waves adios?

Which is why I think this would hurt us in the long run.

It’s a great avenue to play your kids. It isn’t an avenue to keep your kids.

But it’s enough of an excuse to say, “hey, we don’t need a usl team. Our best kids are playing U19”
Another issue is that they're still playing against kids.

Playing against older players who are actually playing for something and who are particularly motivated to beat the newjacks seems like a much better preparation for open age football than another year in the nursery.

Not to be a Pep Stan, but:

So will this new U-19 league just replace the current U-18/19 league? Is the MLS simply trying to kick out all the non-MLS-affiliated teams from this top level?

i think its a trash idea. you have USSDA already no need to have another U19 league. AND you have many teams with "2" teams already there is no need for this.

MLS Academies would withdraw from the USSF DA U18/19 league but the league would still be running with all other non-MLS Academies.
