NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Worth mentioning:

Orlando Berrio who was previously linked with NYCFC was left out of Atletico Nacional's 18 yesterday. They played a mostly youth and reserve squad because a lot of the team has flown to Sao Paulo for their Copa Libertadores match tomorrow.

But... Berrio didn't travel with the team to Brazil because he was given a red card in their last Copa Libertadores match so he can't play anyways.

So... the hot stove is heating up right now. I'll let you know if I hear anything else.

Best guess - how many players in and how many players out in this transfer window?

Second best guess - Over/Under .5 the number of EDS players to join up for the remainder of the season

Here's a question - in our current financial situation, would we be able to hold onto Bravo permanently after his loan? He's had immediate impact whenever he plays (I'd say more so than Mix), and at 22 he has a lot of room to grow and become more clinical with his destroyer skills. He's on top of the league right now with yellows, but if he can refine his raw tackling skills, holding onto him might be more important than going after someone else to replace Mix if he's out.

Bravo only costs us $110,000 vs the cap. No idea of TAM/GAM used to reduce that. It's been said he has a $1mm-$1.5mm purchase option. If we amortize that over a 4 year contract that adds $250,000 - $375,000 to any raise he might be looking for over the $110,000 he's currently receiving. That means a cap hit of a minimum of $360,000 (DP level, but still half of Mix). Yes, I know we could also just use all the Poku GAM and some more GAM/TAM to cancel out his purchase fee. Then we're discussing a $100,000-$200,000 player, but that's not his cost to the team since we're using TAM/GAM to create that artificial valuation. Therefore, I like Bravo a ton as a player on our team, and we could afford him. However, we can probably get better value elsewhere within MLS or on a free transfer from outside MLS with that same $360,000+ of cap room.

Nobody knows exactly what our financial situation is. I believe Bravo may have a $1M transfer fee, and that would be split into each year of his contract if GarberBucks aren't used. He's got a ton of potential and is a good DMid - needs to work on his passing and cards though.

edit: our best bet is to continue to keep him as strictly a loan knowing he'll go back to Boca in a few years. We get his services, He gets playing time, Boca benefits by getting a player showcased and learning from our coach/DPs. Everybody wins.

Our current financial situation is that we're owned by CFG. We can afford Bravo if we want him.

I'm big on Bravo. He still has some growing to do, but he's an absolute destroyer in the midfield, is very good in the air and has shown moments of strength on the ball.

His decision making is poor and he can't play the pivot for us like Iraola has. He's way too inconsistent on the ball. If he can firm that up, he's a fantastic CDM in this league.

Kekuta Manneh, the 21-year-old winger at Vancouver was mysteriously not in the 18 over the weekend. He has 5 goals on the season and a ton of speed. Not necessarily saying we should get him, but noting the development.

Personally, I can't see Vancouver giving up a young talent that doesn't take up an international spot and has a low salary in exchange for an older talent on a very high salary (Mix), but who knows.

To whatever extend he has a say, I can't imagine Mix going anywhere in MLS other than LA.

I'm not sure..... I saw the Vancouver news last night about Mannah that Gotham Gator just mentioned, and thought that is an ideal spot for Mix to land:

1. We play Vancouver 1 game a year rather than 2-3 if he goes to an eastern team - the opportunities for Mix to sting us are limited.
2. Mannah is the 2nd winger we're looking for per his skill set
3. Vancouver is a ridiculously awesome city - very low key, but cosmopolitan at the same time - has instant access to nature and in a favorable climate zone - memories of home for Mix?
4. Vancouver plays a wide-open style like NYCFC and would fit Mix's skills

I've been one of the more vocal Saunders critics early on. I'm sure people are very impressed with his performances lately. But I just want to make the case again that we need a new goal keeper. Yes he's improving but he's still 20th in MLS in save percentage.

April 28th - 54.5% (lowest in MLS among keepers with at least 2 starts)
June 8th - 57.1% (26th place in MLS among keepers with at least 2 starts)
July 5th - 60.8% (20th place in MLS ....)

Yes we've had two clean sheets but I think that's more to do with our defense performing better (Mena also happened to start those last two games), more than Saunders playing out of this world. Thoughts?

Agree. Was sad to see MacMath in CO's 18 last night. But as backup keeper, that might not mean anything. They figure he won't play unless Howard gets hurt. And then they can't trade him anyway.

There were two times against RB where I thought Saunders was about to have his patented screw-up on the ball/venture into no-man's land..... luckily he survived both. And I really wish he'd learn to properly trap a ball and not use the bottom of his foot - that's how a ball will roll under and past him....

Was trying to comment on what Mix wanted, so I'll limit myself to three & four :D

I think part of Mix's goals include being a famous soccer player (as opposed to just a talented one). When he signed, I expected him to play well, and that we'd lose him to a bigger European league in 2-3 years. I think NYC and LA are the only places in MLS he can get the kind of exposure he wants. More credit to him if he can see the potential benefits of going to a smaller stage that's a better fit for him, but it's a risk.

(For the record, I am against trading him, and want him on our team. Our current starting midfield is a combined, what, 109 years old? If Mix hasn't spent the last year and a half learning everything and anything that Pirlo and Lampard will teach him, that would be a tremendous missed opportunity and a shame.)

I think at most we bring in a better back-up in case of emergency, injury or blow-up. PV has made himself comfortable with JS, warts and all, and I think he's our starter for the rest of the season, absent the circumstances I mentioned. Next season, he becomes our veteran back-up, at most. And none of this is based upon what I want, simply what I expect.
