NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Re: the club scouting, I don't think it had much to do with Ring's signing, as he said in a Finnish interview in February that he had been closely followed by Vieira for many years. I believe Vieira has other good recruits in his own mind, that he just hasn't had the chance to snap up yet. Hopefully for the next season.

There is an interesting discussion about some of this in the Soccer In The City podcast this week. They said the highest priority for the next DP should be a goalscorer.

And, not just any kind of goalscorer - but someone you expect to be your primary goalscorer. This is to anticipate the potential drop off from Villa over the next 2-3 years.

They didn't explicitly say it, but I think this means you are signing a striker. Presumably, this means either Villa moves to LW, or we go with 2 up top - maybe the 3-5-2 that many are anticipating.

So what we've been saying here then too.

Maybe? But why can't Wallace be your 12th man? He can deputize at LWB. He can play as a Forward. He slots in as a LW if you have to go back to that formation.

i honeslty thought that could of been tmac....and i feel lewis may claim more minutes on the wings

If we play a 3-5-2, TMac is about the worst LM option on the entire roster. We would be strong (potentially overly strong) at LM with Rodney, Mata & Sweat.

Nevertheless, all 3 of those guys can fill in elsewehere, too. I don't think Tommy fits anywhere in that formation because he doesn't bring enough offensively to be one of your front 3 nor is he good enough on the ball or in defense to play one of the CM roles.

Wallace is probably his best at LM. Same with Matarrita. Wallace can also be an emergency striker. I think a move to a 3-5-2 suits both of them.

Meanwhile Harrison can play RM or emergency CAM/ST. When we need goals, both Wallace/Matarrita and Harrison push up, forming a 3-3-4. When we need to hold a lead, sub an attacker out for a RB and play a 5-man backline.

all good points...i was referring to that "12th" man type thing...i mean if threy are better than him they are most likely in starting XI. i dont think we get a TAM like player to be on the bench and in terms of domestic players we dont have any ( until we get someone from academy maybe) and i dont think we have anyone that anyone is willing to trade for if we find a good one out there.

Is it possible that McNamara is better in a 5-man midfield because he doesn't need to cover as much ground? He is safe with the ball, but the game just seems to be played around him. We could do a lot worse than McNamara as a deep depth option at CM. He just might be paid a little too much for it.

I don't like him as an outside mid in the formation though. He doesn't get up and down enough.

i felt let down by his form in the end....the last game felt like he needed to come off waaay sooner and the yellow made it seem he was frustrated. maybe his injury effects were still affecting him and that is why he didnt score in the second half of year

I really don't care who we sign, so long as they can shoot on goal 90% of the time. We really lacked finishing this year and I think it's one of the biggest differences (and hurdles) between MLS and the top 6-8 leagues in the world.

Sean Johnson was underperforming as well...

So Ibarra's main position is a CAM. He's not a replacement for Herrera. He's more a replacement for Lampard though I don't expect the production from Lampard from Ibarra.

I don't see him being a starter if our starting 11 continues into 2018. And 300K is expensive to have on the bench. A DP is either going to be a CAM, Winger, or second Striker. I think he can do better with the position than Ibarra.
