NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I agree we could use a true playmaker. But we'd also win more if we conceded less goals. We have attackers. Wallace and Harrison are good attackers, they just need to work on finishing and movement. A true playmaker would make a huge difference with the attackers we have.

Our defense needs organization. There is no leader in the back line.

We allowed the 5th-fewest goals in the league this season. Defense really wasn't the problem this year.

Surely it wasn't the problem. But in a league where defense is generally lacking, we can improve and with the number of goals we already score, we would definitely win more. We have the attackers, we need a strong presence in the midfield who is a playmaker. Pirlo 15 years ago would have been great. haha.

His name is Chanot. He just got hurt and didn't play after Game 20. If he comes back we are set there. Also, we generally played our best defense when in attack mode, like the last playoff game. That's not because of the back line. In fact in that last game with the team's season on the line they got a clean sheet with the most patched together back line we saw all season with only one true CB. They did it mostly by not giving Columbus chances to get that far.

After Villa, our next top scorers were the worst among contending playoff teams. Jack might get better but who knows. Wallace has never been a solid scorer. Plus, Villa is getting older. Plus, plus, we already have a strong presence in the midfield. I agree they lack creativity and finishing in the final third. But what you're asking for is basically someone who play's Maxi's role with more creativity, and then what do we do with Maxi? He's on a guaranteed DP contract. They're not going to cut him. Getting the player you're asking for creates a problem. Easier and simpler, and solves more problems without creating new ones is to get a finisher who can supplement Villa now and hopefully replace when Villa really falls off or leaves.

In what way is Wallace a good attacker? I'm genuinely asking...

Exactly. Our defense on the outside with the fullbacks can be stronger, but the spine of this defense with Johnson, Chanot, Callens, and Ring and with Brillant as needed as rock solid.

We have quite strong leadership in the back with a Chanot and Johnson

D_RoyJenkins D_RoyJenkins - I guess what I meant to say is that Wallace and Harrison have potential to become good attackers and a solid playmaker in the midfield can help make that happen. Harrison is still young and I hope he can improve with time. Wallace need to improve his finishing, but I think he works hard and his injury in the summer put a real hamper on his growth. He plays well for his national team and that translates to NYCFC. Hopefully, he can stay injury free next year.

mgarbowski mgarbowski - you're right Chanot is a strong part of our defense. But I have to disagree about Callens. I honestly think he and Brillant are terrible. I don't consider Ring part of the back line. Johnson may scream a lot but having well organized defense is more than just screaming.

Attacking is the best form of defense without a doubt. But playing that style opens us up to counter attacks, which is where an organized defense is important. We are by far not the worst in the league, but I think we can sure it up back there.

I lost you at Callens and Brillant are terrible.

Dude, they are terrible relative to whom? Hummels and Boateng?

Callens made a good case to be best 11 in MLS, and Chanot would have if he hadn’t been injured. Brillant was everything you could ask filling in at RCB. Pretty much any bad performances from him came when he wasn’t at RCB.

Callens cleaned up tons of messes. I can’t take calling him horrible as serious analysis.

And who would you trade Johnson for in MLS? The only acceptable answer is Gonzalez, and that’s an upside play because Jesse isn’t at SJ’s level right now.

Bro, we were top 5 in the league in Goals Allowed. We went from August 21st to the last game of the season without a multigoal game. I don't think you are seeing this correctly.

I guess this forum isn't too friendly to open discussion. I understand we're all fans and are passionate about it but geez.. if open discussion and differing opinions aren't welcome then that's just, sad. We all want the best for this club and that's what should matter. I apologize if i offended anybody with my opinions. But that's just what they are, my opinions.

For the record, I don't want to get rid of Harrison. Aside from Villa he's my favorite on the team and think he's got lots of potential that I hope will rapidly increase and show itself next season.

I just think when you're the fifth-best defense, you work on getting better in other areas -- the defense seems to be in good shape right now, our problem for much of the season was finishing. We created so many chances but just couldn't finish -- so I'd focus on getting some guys that can finish those chances.

Also, in Vieira's system I think the front 6 is far more important than the centerbacks. Vieira needs fulbacks willing to get into the play (Struna and Matarrita are those guys), and he needs a front 6 that can score. Those 8 spots are the ones we need to make sure are squared away.

In a capped league, you can't improve everything so you have to prioritize. I believe with PV's system, we should prioritize offensive options.

Not being open to other opinions and not criticizing poor opinions is two different things.
