NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

someone put that name out there before hand. and im still of the belief the dude is just injury prone, and imagine with the long travels here and fucked up schedule AND the shitty turf fields will all add up and potentially hurt his effectiveness here.
Agreed. Robben is just 2 years younger than Villa. Villa gave us 3 straight seasons of more than 2,500 minutes in 2015-17. Robben had 1 year ever of 2500+ minutes adding Bundesliga and CCL together.

This is completely not necessary and very rude. I made the same point you did without the personal attacks on what you are assuming is someone elses race. And its not the first time in this forum youve assumed someone elses race to attack someone elses position that isnt equal to yours. Please, have some respect for your fellow forum members.
Sorry about bringing this back up but a comment like his shows me he doesn't have the perspective that I or others may have. Next time I'll try not to offend anyone.

The headache thing is old news. He's calmed down a lot as hes gotten older and matured. But as was said he did also face a ton of racist disrespect which im sure contributed to his attitude.
This. Dudes calmed down since he left Man city. Don’t throw bananas at him or make monkey noises and you’ve got yourself 20 goals a season right there alone - and he can actually head the ball too.

He’s also alienated every manager he’s ever played for, including our former manager who is his current manager.

They aren't having the best marriage right now.

Just hope we get a name. Sorry if that reeks of past MLS point whatever thinking an up and coming South American is great but I want at least one big name on this team as long as they've got something left in the tank.

100% agree, but we are in the minority. Obviously someone that can still play. If the roster is done right, we can make it work. I don't want a name that's set to retire right now. I want someone that is still active...but that won't happen. For all the naysayers, this city needs someone to connect with. It's still a business. Normies aren't going to be excited about a talented South American player that nobody heard of. We are still new and need to build this base. I understand it's the jersey not the name, but we are a stale entity right now. Our star player is gone, attendance is decreasing, we won't have a stadium for years. I can't believe how many locations I was able to move to this year through relocation. I only renewed to save my spot, not for the team. I would've been better off buying tickets game to game. That's saying something. I just overpaid for 2 good tickets for The Rolling Stones concert coming up. They aren't at their peak and their best days are behind them...but it's still the f'n stones. They are a draw. Who's our draw? Medina? The guy isn't even that good. I know this isn't popular opinion, but it doesn't make anyone less of a fan to want someone that excites the masses.

The only thing I can remember from your whole rant is I'm jealous you got Stones tickets.

I'm not sure wanting a name is the minority opinion, certainly not among the casual fans but even here on the forums. I think the vast majority would prefer at least one of the 3 DPs be a recognizable name. Now I think will people differ is on what they will tolerate from an age/gas left in the tank standpoint. I'll take another Villa in the 28-33 year old age range with some years left to give over any young prospect. Things get a bit more murky when we get up into the +34 year old group. I'm sure the ordering of this list changes quite a bit from fan to fan but if we break them into slightly more granular group than name vs no name I'd rank my preference with 1 being what I most want, as follows:

1. Villa types: 28-33 year old accomplished world class player from Ea top flight European league who is a known name.
2. Almiron type: Young known high potential player that his being heavily recruited by multiple high level clubs and is very close to a sure thing.
3. Maxi type: 25-29 year old Skilled player, proven in high level leagues but not much of a known name
4. Prilo/Lampard/2019 Villa type: 34 years and older known world class talent that is well past their prime with not much left in the tank.
5. Medina Type: young super raw completely unproven but possibly high potential players

I'd bet the largest amount of debate would center around the order of #1 and #2 or possibly the order of #4 and #5. For me I'd always take the star just because they are proven and fun to watch. For Villa vs. Almiron, their both going to be around the same amount to time, Villa will retire or age out of the league and Almiron will be sold on to a higher league, personally I'd rather watch the former barcelona striker/world cup winner. For #4 vs #5 I just think the DP spots are way too valuable to roll the dice with either type of player but if I was forced to choose I'd rather see a few glimpses of Pirlo passes or Lampard scoring with every part of his body than Medina getting pushed off the ball every time he touches it because he hasn't figured out how to play soccer with grown adults.

I like that you distinguish between Almiron-type and Medina-type. They tend to be conflated in discussion. 8m vs 3-4m (accounting for sell-on clause) seems like a massive difference at that stage of development.

I'm curious whether the club distinguished between Almiron-type and Medina-type though. It may well determine or influence which way they go this time. I like your preference list, personally, but my hunch is that they think Medina will grow into an Almiron-type and they'll try to sign another Medina-type for next year. Or they play it safe, wait and see if the Medina gamble pays off, and get another Maxi-type. I just don't see them splashing the cash.

It's an interesting and unsettling question. I really hope the club can distinguish between Almiron-type and Medina-type, oddly enough it couldn't be more transparent since they came from the same place:

Almiron: Paraguayan First Division (Age 20) -> Argentinian First Division -> (Age 22) Atlanta United
Mdeina: Almiron: Paraguayan First Division (Age 19) -> NYCFC Atlanta United

Put the money aside and the fact that Almiron was already being courted by big teams in Europe, just looking at age and the league they were proving themselves in at the time an MLS aquired them there is a massive difference between Almiron and Medina. I'm not super versed in all the leagues of South America but I think there is a pretty substantial different between the Paraguayan First Division and the Argentinian First Division. If our front office and scouting network doesn't understand that difference we are in big trouble.

Medina is a lite version. I'm ok with bringing a Medina in when you already have an Almiron or Josef...but don't bring him in as them. If the x-factor was Tata, maybe Medina is the best we can do. We have to poach South American players before they go to Europe. Once they go we will never get them.

Known our luck we will end up going with Andy Caroll
